I expect some great concertos to come out of this current unrest, what with all the violins and lootiers.

Good morning! Finally some good news here - the BF's spinal surgery is scheduled for July 17th. It's only 4 months late.

I'm taking a mental health break today.  I finished data collection yesterday and now have to enter it all into Excel, but not today.

I was thinking in the shower this morning about the taxonomy of "protesters."  This is what I came up with.

1) Legitimate protesters; people with a real stake in the issue of police brutality, who are trying to make a difference but feel that they cannot accomplish anything through the existing political system.

2) Fellow-travelers who join marches because it makes them feel oh so virtuous.  They never stop to think about the the possible results -- for example, the Ferguson Effect --  of their actions.  It's all about their feelz.

3) Criminals who are simply there to steal shit.

4) Genuine Antifa terrorists who are hoping to start a violent revolution.  This has been the dream of anarchist-action groups since the mid nineteenth century -- the myth of the "general strike" in which all the workers join with the activists and smash the system.  These people are dangerous, largely made up of sociopaths.

5) Idiot teens/college students who march with the terrorists because it's cool.  Like group 2 they have nothing invested in the "struggle" but are involved because it makes them feel virtuous.

6) Husbands/boyfriends/partners of any or all of the above who are there because they're afraid if they don't go along with the protest/looting/terrorist they will be denied sexual access.

Anyway, that's what I've got.

After seeing some of the females at the protests/riots, I would be very surprised if there are men who want sexual access to them.

Howdy.  It seems we had another relatively-quiet night here in DC (though it is weirdly difficult to get any news about that aspect from our local "journalists"); this, despite Donald Trump having taken a five minute walk to a church on Tuesday WHICH WAS LITERALLY THE WORST THING EVER AND DEFINITELY MERITS FULL FRONT-PAGE COVERAGE TO THE EXCLUSION OF ALL ELSE.

Neverthless, I still had my Mossberg 590 loaded and ready near my bed last night (along with other stuff), and will do so tonight.  (Little OR is with his mom this week, rest assured, otherwise of course I wouldn't be leaving loaded firearms out.)

I am kicking myself for not having gotten around to getting my concealed-carry permit last year, as I'd promised myself I would do.  That's tops on my list as soon as things get back to "normal".

... or at least believe they do, and are also utterly unaware (or deliberately obtuse) regarding the fact that police killings of civilians (of all races) has been on a long-term declining trend for many years.

Agreed -- I didn't say they were entirely rational or informed, but feel they have a genuine stake in the issue.

Heather McDonald had a great piece in today's WSJ about the myth of "systemic racism" among police.  Unfortunately the Obama narrative trumps any facts.

No rioters in my neighborhood---some "No Justice, No Peace" graffiti, though.  Helps, probably, being not only some distance from downtown Brooklyn and only about 3 blocks from the non-Gracie Mansion home of Mayor Moron.

Mayor Moron's new curfew---8 PM---is a pain in the ass.

Friend of mine lives near Pratt, which is closer to downtown Brooklyn, an easy walk from the Barclay Center where some of the recent rallies were held, and from the bridges to Manhattan, and is also 1 block from a housing project and 2 blocks from a police station.  There was a lot of shouting in the streets there on Friday night, and I think some of the police station's windows were broken.  Rumors of shots, not confirmed.

Former Obama admin intelligence official posts bail for firebomb-throwing attorney

"The former official, Salmah Rizvi, told a judge the alleged firebomber is her "best friend." Rizvi, now an attorney at the D.C.-based law firm Ropes & Gray, helped secure the release of fellow lawyer Urooj Rahman by agreeing to be a suretor for her bail. That means Rizvi is liable for the full cost of the $250,000 bail if Rahman fails to obey the court's orders.

Rahman was released to home confinement over the objections of government attorneys after her arrest on Saturday for throwing a lit Molotov cocktail through the window of an NYPD vehicle. Evidence presented by prosecutors included images of Rahman holding a Molotov cocktail in the passenger seat of a van that was later found to be full of the necessary materials for making the explosive devices.

And are you surprised by this?

"Rizvi entered the legal field after a career in the Obama administration's intelligence community, where "her high-value work would often inform the President's Daily Briefs," according to her bio at the Islamic Scholarship Fund. The group gave Rizvi a law school scholarship sponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a radical anti-Israel organization that has been tied to the funding of global terror networks.

During Rizvi's time at the New York University School of Law, she was a fellow at Ramallah-based legal organization Al-Haq, which was founded to challenge the "legal status of Israel as an occupying power." The group is best known for filing lawsuits aimed at delegitimizing Israel and providing legal backing for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against the Jewish state."

One way you can tell this is a coordinated Antifa terrorist attack is that they have not targeted Gracie Mansion or DeBlasio's personal residence. They know who their friends are.

The protesters marched toward Gracie Mansion with no violence. Proof IMO that Antifa was elsewhere.

Saw my first protest today.  On the way to the Publix there was a group of maybe six college students with signs that said "honk for BLM."  They were outside some very expensive student apartments -- mommy and daddy were obviously paying for them to live there.  The signs appeared to be made from two boxes they had lying around and were extremely crude.  They weren't there when I went to the store; they appeared while I was shopping.
