We had to read that in high school, and I could not make heads or tails of it until the teacher walked us through the poem. Then, I finally got it--but it was not obvious at first.

I wouldn't quite put it that way - not yet, anyway; but it does seem clear that "hate crimes" laws are not meant to protect the likes of you and me - none of this old-fashioned "equal justice under law" stuff; it's about protecting Progressive-Certified Grievance Groups.  In fact, I had no fewer than three Assistant US Attorneys tell me as much - without batting an eye - during a social gathering back around 2002.

And that's why I believe hate crime laws are unconstitutional. Georgia was one of the last holdouts but passed a law last week.

I'm not sure they are per se unconstitutional (though I think they're a bad idea, since they essentially add a "thought crime" component to an actual crime).  But applied unequally, as we're seeing?  Yep.
