Confession: I kind of hate summer. It is just too bloody hot out there to do anything fun.

Agreement.  It's unusually hot here.  Let number 2 son drive around the neighborhood to get used to driving the Jeep -- very different from what he's used to.

In defense of “the letter“:

I don’t know if there is true self-examination going on among the signatories, or if they are just afraid because the crocodile is starting to nibble at *their* toes now.

Out: the horror of “binders of women“.

in: the horror of women with binders.

Being at mom's on "vacation" means that instead of cleaning my house, cooking, and doing laundry, I'm cleaning someone else's house, cooking for someone else, and doing someone else's laundry.  Club Med's got nothin' on me.

i’ll be visiting my own parents next month. And while I don’t expect to have to cook or clean, I found it a little bit darkly funny that my mom suggested in an email that maybe I should stay at a nearby hotel.

In truth, it’s not a bad idea, and I’ve done it before when I visited with my son (I’ll be alone this time).  Ever since they “downsized“ to a condo, from the house that I grew up then, I’ve been relegated to a convertible bed in the living room when I visit them; which is murder on my back. There’s a nearby hotel that’s quite comfortable and not expensive.  But I just had to laugh at the message.

One place I worked, we had a black candidate for a job come in. He was dressed in a suit, and spoke well - but did not know what the company did or anything about it other than where to go for the interview.

We didn't hire him because he came unprepared. I guess that constitutes white supremacy and racism now.

Just to be clear, this was after the Internet made it very easy to find out all kinds of information, and the company's web site explained a lot. I certainly had reviewed it before my interview there.

So I just booked a massage online for this evening, at the place I’ve been going to for several years now. They have you fill out an online COVID-19 questionnaire. One of the listed symptoms is “new confusion“. Fortunately, I’m only experiencing my normal level of confusion, nothing new.

I wonder how Joe Biden would answer that question?

Someone needs to do a deepfake (or even just replace the soundtrack) of Biden talking with Grandpa Simpson talking about taking the ferry and wearing an onion on his belt, 'cause it was the style at the time.

Except it would get the maker banned from youtube, with the excuse being a Simpson's copyright violation.

I think this is this thread's epitaph, too.

Relatively clear skies here. I’m hoping to see the comet tonight.
