Also, I'm currently watching mind Hunter, season two episode eight. The Atlanta child murders, seems like the climax. Quite good.
Next Door seems to be most useful for finding lost pets and looking for babysitters and handymen. I see the occasional post about car break-ins but that's about it. It was helpful when the power went out; in fact I didn't get it back until about 5:30 this morning. (Side note: a few weeks ago I must have left my car unlocked and someone rifled through the glove compartment and my CDs. Apparently today's thieves are not into classical music.)

I thought Mindhunter did a good job with the Atlanta child murders. The case is incredibly frustrating because of all the inaccurate assumptions made at the time by the police, city leadership, the community, and the families of the missing kids. To this day, many people believe the Klan was behind it. As Holden points out in the show, that's basically impossible. The most obvious clue was overlooked at the beginning: most of the kids spent a lot of time doing little chores like carrying groceries for people who would give them a buck or two. Yet no one thought to ask the kids' friends about anyone who might have been in the area offering work. No one thought to ask the kids about much of anything. And when they finally did get Williams, they closed all the other cases, some of which were probably unrelated (e.g. the two little girls). That was entirely political IMO - Atlanta was very invested in being The City too Busy to Hate under its first black mayor. Serial killers are bad for business.

If you're interested in more about the case, there's a good podcast called Atlanta Monster that came out in 2018. The podcaster actually got to speak to Williams on the phone. Williams is the most obvious lying, fast-talking hustler who thinks he's smarter than everyone. If anything, the actor in Mindhunter underplayed him - I think the reality would have been seen as over-the-top and unrealistic.

Then why has he not been drafted by the democrats to run for president?
