Police responded to reports of shots fired shortly before 1 a.m. at a large gathering in the 3300 block of Dubois Place, part of a residential neighborhood in southeast Washington.

Newsham said 20 people were wounded at the scene. At least 11 of the victims are female.

That headline seems designed to obscure who shot the officer and imply the officer shot the teen. And why was a gathering of several hundred people not broken up long before "gunfire erupted" (as if it's Mt. Vesuvius or something, just a natural phenomenon)?

Just like the headlines here went from 2 (or 3) "employees" (whatever that means) of a school district (with 143 schools, 23,300 teachers, and God knows how many other employees) tested positive for Covid, possibly exposing 260 other employees (i.e., everyone who works in that same school), to headlines that implied that there were 260 teachers with Covid (none of whom could have gotten from a student, btw, since none of them are in school).

The level of mendacity in the media beggars belief.

I'm sure you heard about the 7-year-old boy from Savannah that "died of COVID-19." In reality, he had a febrile seizure while in the bathtub and drowned. The fever may have been caused by COVID, or not, but it will be recorded as a COVID death regardless.

I'd seen that a while back; it's very good.  A number of lines closely echo lines from Fussell's "Thank God for the Atom Bomb"; whether Whittle used it as a base text or not, I don't know.  Fussell fought with the 45th Division in Europe, and was considered something like 40% disabled after the war---but despite that disability from his wounds in the European Theater, he was slated to be one of the people thrown into the invasion of the home islands.  The bombs saved him from that.

Unfortunately the "narrative" that the Japanese had already been beaten and were ready to surrender has been repeated over and over again.  It had its origins within Japanese diplomatic circles, but the people who were telling the tale had no power over the military.  They were prepared to fight to the bitter end.
