Good morning from a frosty northern clime. Got the gas fireplace up and running yesterday with only the minimum required blood sacrifice (so many sharp edges). Saved ourselves about $100 dollars from the gas maintenance people to do it. Minimal swearing was done as well.

Have the weekend off for a change, and without needing to request it. Going to spend time with the Squire, and probably bake some of my home bread. Don't like the stuff we bake at work, too mushy for my liking. :)

I miss having a fireplace, especially on the typical cold wet Georgia winter day.

I love this weather. I'm in my flannel jammies and big fluffy robe, drinking coffee and waiting for the oatmeal to cook. Unfortunately, I think I caught a cold yesterday.

Been having some minor issues lately. Since I moved in with the fiancee (soon to be wife), I have found that my writing has gone. Aside from what I did for NaNoWriMo last year I haven't really written anything much. Work hasn't helped. Worrying about the Squire hasn't helped. Too many distractions.

I have so many interesting ideas that I have trouble expanding into stories. So starting next week I will be taking time after work and going to a different space and writing or trying to at least. I need to get book two finished and short stories written. I will be trying to research a story idea for this year's NaNoWriMo as well. Think I may do a take on the "Labours of Heracles", but in a science fiction setting.

Sometimes a writers' group can help. I worked with this one for a while, but then got too busy to keep it up

As for my writing, I get stuck writing scenes with normal dialog, and I realized it is because I don't know what to say in those circumstances (Not very social) Thus, I don't see how I can write various necessary scenes.

I started to write the story of William Marshall in a science fiction setting, but when I had to write scenes in his childhood, got stuck as described above. I do have notes on how the medieval setting would translate to space, and a good start. If you are interested in collaborating on a project, I'd be willing to. We can discuss via email.

A question - once I give this site a permanent URL, should I leave registration open for any length of time or go to by invitation only?

I do have the ability to "ban" users and even hide all their posts.

I might be interested eventually. Let me think on it.

No rush - just don't copy the idea meanwhile/

But if you do want to see what I have started, email me.

Don't worry about that. :)

Funny thing is that I listened to a whole bunch of Great Courses on English and Medieval history fairly recently. (smirk).

I vote for the former, and we see how it goes.

And a reminder, it is now possible to use the Frontier.

It is in the list of forums on the right. Clicking on it will open a list of Frontier threads, and clicking on one of those will open the thread.

(Until a recent update, the thread would open but wouldn't let you post. That was a one word fix, and it fixed it for all forums and threads.)

I think my suggestion would be to leave it open to simplify any other 'old hands' finding this place, then after perhaps a couple months switch to referral only- if that is feasible.

I have been disappointed here at the lack of the breads and rolls that I grew up with in Milwaukee- crusty Kaiser rolls with a feathery soft inside but a real crust, serious rye bread, good streudel, like that. With the German and Amish populations here I expected more.

Maybe write the first Great American Novel with all the dialog in AmSLan? Bound to get a lot of mileage out of the deaf community, and a lot of the victim groups. And doing the Talking Books version would be so easy! Or cast the characters in the mode of Steven Hawking- using vocoders that truncate and condense verbose statements down to terse, semi-cryptic verbal shorthand.

Of course you'd need to convince the publisher to buy the word count of the implied conversations...

The clean, clear Kentucky air is finally countering the imagination stifling effects of LA/ Kalifornia's more substantial atmosphere. Ideas just spring up like puffballs after a rain!

For those who don't know, William Marshall went from being a hostage to King Stephen (and whose father said "Let him be killed; I have the hammer and tongs with which to forge another son", to being advisor to iirc 4 or 5 kings of England.

Revo, so, based on a post of yours yesterday, you have Deep One blood in your family? That explains moving to Kentucky, where the fish eyes and gills won't be as noticeable///////////

(See my reply at the end of the day thread or in the Pub for details, if you don't get the Lovecraft reference)

OK, now have a way to reset passwords!. Well, thought I did.

It lets you reset the password with any code, not just the one generated.

Back to work
