Waiting for my Uber, following physical therapy for my knee, a little shopping and dinner. I think I’ve spent more on Uber in the last six weeks than I did it in the preceding two years. Tomorrow I’m going to see if I can wedge myself in my car comfortably enough to start driving again.

This is actually a decent write up of the Solar Winds hack, except I am far more inclined to think the group starting this hack was China, not Russia. And I'm wondering if there's actually a Chinese government agent who is one of the programmers at Solar Winds. I have no evidence of this, but it might not be that hard to do. The article leads with the worrying part about the nuclear access, but I'm actually more worried about the last point--this has infiltrated so much of our networking systems that we may never get it all out.

I mentioned yesterday that the Left is treating small-business owners the way Stalin treated the kulaks. Looking at the ads in the NYC subways, I realized that the Left is also treating "first responders" and "essential workers" as the new Stakhanovites. And, between Biden invoking FDR and comparing himself to FDR as the Left shuts down small businesses all over, while at the same time demanding that the federal government bail out the people that they've ruined, it seems clear that the Left is trying to created its very own new Great Depression, with half the country on relief---whether with the intent to use this manufactured crisis sell the entire country to China or not, I am not yet certain.

NPR's Morning Sedition carried a piece on Disney's Fantasia today. It appears that there's a new re-issue of the film, with the sections now deemed insufficiently "woke" because they contain racial or sexual stereotypes deemed unacceptable by the trembly-boweled, have been edited out.

WA State Dept of Health got busted inflating the COVID numbers, I posted that yesterday. Dept of Health posted revised methodology for counting deaths. This jumped out how they previous counted deaths. Until now, we correlated a positive COVID-19 lab result up to 60 days prior to death. So if the person tested positive in the last two months and dies.... IT'S COVID!

What the hell happened to Allahpundit? He hated Trump so much that he totally went full Democrat. He believed every lie that came out about Trump and Russia and I don't think he ever believed any of the information put out by Papadopoulos and others about how they were set up.

NYSlimes vaccine distribution is RACIST Marc Lipsitch, an infectious-disease epidemiologist at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, argued that teachers should not be included as essential workers, if a central goal of the committee is to reduce health inequities.“Teachers have middle-class salaries, are very often white, and they have college degrees,” he said. “Of course they should be treated better, but they are not among the most mistreated of workers.”
** Harald Schmidt, an expert in ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania, said that it is reasonable to put essential workers ahead of older adults, given their risks, and that they are disproportionately minorities. “Older populations are whiter, ” Dr. Schmidt said. “Society is structured in a way that enables them to live longer. Instead of giving additional health benefits to those who already had more of them, we can start to level the playing field a bit.”

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 17: I would have no problem with a designated area. A vacant lot, preferable a large vacant warehouse. You can't live in parks or on the street, you can pitch your tent here. Control access, have security, provide sanitation facilities, etc... Yeah it would cost but the cost of not doing something like that is higher.

Reply to JCM in 18: It would inevitably become a drug-infested, dangerous slum, but at least it would be contained. Remember when hobos took over a really nice park in an upscale neighborhood? All the rich white libs were thrilled until the hobos started smoking meth in the open and stabbing each other.

Your use of the term “hobo“ to describe these people is unfair to actual hobos!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobo “ Unlike a "tramp", who works only when forced to, and a "bum", who does not work at all, a "hobo" is a traveling worker.”

Reply to Occasional Reader in 21: Thanks for the clarification. In my family we often call them hobos because of a note my son wrote me when I was going to the library. For some reason, the homeless were allowed to congregate near the Young Adult section, where the books he wanted were shelved. He listed the titles and added "Watch out for hobos."

For anyone wonder what the heck this SolarWinds security issue is, I have spent a lot of time today gaining more understanding of it, even though I won't be doing any work on mitigation. I'm just trying to explain to my coworkers who aren't technical what it is and how it works. I have what I think is a reasonable explanation that a kindergarten student would understand. If folks want it, I can put it up in the Frontier.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 29: An example WHAT follows is a description taken from the course catalog of the
Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota. The first word
has been blanked out by our informant, who intended to protect the
perpetrator, obviously the one who teaches these blankety-blank courses: –?– courses involve the inextricable
interrelationships of different disciplines, but linguistic
sophistication and communicative competence to improve interpersonal
communication and international understanding are the all-encompassing
objectives.
So how’s that for linguistic sophistication and communicative
competence? (The latter can only mean “any competence that
communicates,” and not, as the writer imagines, “competence in
communicating.” The difference is important. This writer has no
competence in communicating, and his competence, such as it is, is all
too communicative of that fact. )
