I'm getting to spend the day with youngest boy without his siblings.  I can't remember when we have done this -- it's been years.  We're going to do lunch.

Sounds nice.

On my end, I'm informed by Little OR's mom that he made great strides in bike-riding yesterday, which makes me happy.  This is a parenting duty I'll have to leave to her for the time being, since my mobility is still somewhat limited by my knee surgery from October.

Sounds like you won't need to use my father's bike-riding tutelage technique.

Let's just say it was belt-driven.

Who needs reflectors when the bike glows so nicely in the dark?

Actually, some years later, when a friend of his bought a custom-built Holdsworth bicycle (it was upwards of $300, which was a lot of money for a bicycle in the late '60s), he managed to somehow wangle getting the machine shop at the Lab to chrome-plate the frame "off the books."

Seattle police response times slower because of officer shortages, acting chief says

Mayor Durka Durka have spent a year telling us service has not suffered.

On the upside it gives the criminal class more time to flee the scene.

What until self defense shootings go up and we'll start hearing about the surge in gun violence.

So given the Dem attitude on drugs and undocumented people, when will Obamacare cover heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, etc?

Happy lunchtime, everyone. Isn't tax time so fun? Aren't we happy we get to pay to sustain a government that continues to spend trillions of dollars lining their own pockets?

I'm thrilled. Overjoyed, even.

Pay no attention the glue behind this smile. None whatsoever.

Or even sends COVID stimulus checks to those in prison charged with fraudulently trying to obtain benefits from earlier programs

Meet David Staveley, age 53, also known as David Sanborn, also known as Kurt D. Sanborn, also known by his federal Bureau of Prisons number 04230-049.

Kurt — the name I used to know him by in his radio days — is currently locked up in Central Falls, R.I., at the feds’ Wyatt Detention Facility.

He’s charged with fraud in the attempted theft of $438,500 from the feds’ first COVID-19 relief program.

Now, as this career con man awaits trial on those COVID-19 theft charges, Congress is preparing to send him a check for $1,400 as part of its newest … COVID-19 relief program.

It's almost like a classic coffee commercial; Chase & Sanborn Coffee used to advertise "pure coffee nectar."

In this case, the feds are chasin' Sanborn to give him pure covid "nectar."

Warmer weather and the chipmunks are out.

Which somehow gave me the bad idea for a Chipmunks and Monkees combination, where various Monkees song parodies are done in "chipmunk" voices. Songs like "Acorn Believer", and "I'm a Seed-Eater".

So as of Monday everyone over 55 is eligible for the Covid vaccine in Georgia. I am thinking of getting it just so my kids, who are either already vaccinated or in the process, will stop nagging me about it. Thoughts?

What can it mean
To an acorn believer and a tree rodent queen?

Get the vaccine. The results from Israel show all are effective and safe.

Reply to doppelganglander in 26:

I'm eligible, technically my wife is as a defense attorney, but the state organization isn't giving out certification.

We want to have it at a medical facility, not a mass vaccination site, as there are occasional side effects for those with allergies (in Israel, I think it was down at the 0.00n % level) but we want to be somewhere they can handle it.

Where I work had done some vaccinations, but the state isn't supplying them any more except for the second doses. Their facilities can handle emergencies, and we'd go there if possible. They might get some in the future.

One side effect of the vaccine is facial paralysis, but that seems to be limited to those who have had plastic surgery.

OK, Pelosi - go for it!

I'm not jumping on the bad wagon yet.

My reasoning:

It is not a vaccine in the tradition sense that we know, it is an mRNA strand that is being injected that uses our own cellular machinery to generate the identifying protein of COVID.  A tradition vaccine uses the identifying protein direct.

This is the first time an mRNA inject has been used.

This is the same technology used for GMO's. I'm not against GMOs. GMOs are made by using a vector, method of transport, to insert mRNA into the organism, this mRNA is then used to write a new segment into the organism's DNA.

But directly inject mRNA outside limit gene therapies has not been done.

I need more data before I'm convinced mRNA injects are as benign as being advertised.

This is only based on what learned in all those bio-chem and genetics classes I took.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine uses more traditional technology, transferring the gene from the ACE2 spike protein to a harmless (to humans) virus, but it is only 66% effective, compared with 90% or more for the others.

And mRNA has a very short lifetime in the body.

I will. The nearest site is a clinic but their website states they're out of vaccine at the moment. There are two mass vaccination sites downtown, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena. Parking is terrible and I'm hesitant to use public transit. That leaves the third mass site at a shopping mall north of me. I'll give it some time and see if a more convenient option becomes available.
