Good morning. Keeping it simple for breakfast, I see. The peace and quiet look lovely.

Last night I dreamed my office was reopening. They were painting and putting in new carpet, and everyone got a beautiful new workstation with two enormous monitors.

Me, I had a dream that I was in London, to interview for a job with Barclay Bank. The interview took place with as all standing on or near Westminster Bridge. One of the interviewers was reasonable, the other was a total jerk, and I knew right away that he had no intention of hiring me, because I was American. My friends (IRL) Dan and Laure were sitting at an outdoor table at a nearby cafe, sort of cheering me on.

Reply to doppelganglander in 2: I remember working on a Mac SE with a 8' grayscale screen. Now I have pair of 32" 4k monitors, and I use the real estate. datasheets, drawings, various tools.

I remember when the wet-behind-the-ears whiz kids showed up at the office with their newfangled clay tablets and the latest fad, cuneiform.

Given the large amount of flammable material, not to mention gasoline, in and around that particular spot, I'd say that "breakfast cooking photo op" is an extremely bad idea.

Hey, at least the stylus would be able to move into the clay. When I had to write with pen and papyrus, I kept getting the nib of my pen stuck in the papyrus fibers. Talk about your ink blots!

... while simultaneously, Ben Rhodes is cliaiming that Republicans are pouncing! upon news that has been publicly known for ages:

So, the treason never happened; and also, everyone always knew all along that it happened, so what's the big deal?

Reply to Occasional Reader in 17: The best analysis I've read of the Zarif/Kerry accusation His latest narrative appears to be that he was sidelined by the IRGC. This makes him out to be a victim and also makes it seem like he is negotiating in good faith abroad while being undermined at home. This plays into the Iranian regime’s narrative that posits “hard-liners” undermine the “moderates.” In reality, this is not the case. Zarif is part of the regime. He isn’t conducting his own policy. He was in Doha when the recording was released. The question that emerges then is not really what Kerry told Zarif, but why Zarif is bragging about being told these details by Kerry? Zarif is feigning ignorance on basic things. He is pretending he can’t even read The New York Times, which had written about the airstrikes. The idea that Zarif was told information on Israeli airstrikes by John Kerry and that he didn’t know about airstrikes on Iranian convoys in Syria appears ridiculous. Does he not read his own Iranian media? Does he not have any sources inside his own ministry? ... The leaked tape has embarrassed Kerry, resulting in his denial. It’s not clear how it will impact Zarif. He was already distrusted at home, and it’s not clear if he can be trusted abroad now to further Iran’s aims if he paints himself as ignorant of Iran’s own policies. Nevertheless, this may work in his favor because he can continue to be the cherubic face of Iran’s regime.

I've been not feeling well after the second COVID shot yesterday. Had to go to bed early and didn't sleep well because I was sore, and I had the sort of dreams when I'm fighting a fever - somehow, that gets into my dream. Was out of it for a while, even after getting up at 9:45, but after lying down on the couch, petting dogs, and falling asleep, I am doing a lot better.

I felt a little bit ragged the day after my second shot, but I put that down to being a symptom of “parenting“.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 21: I would say a majority of highschool teams in WA are Northwest Native American inspired. Many used N.W. native art styles. Like the local high school, Thunderbirds. Even "benign" team names like Eagles used a N.W. stylized eagle from a totem pole.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 25: Am I the only person who had less reaction to the second shot than the first? The first resulted in some minor soreness in my arm. The second was just a bit sensitive at the injection site. I wasn't tired and never felt unwell.

LIke I said, hard to chalk up my second-shot reaction to the shot, or to parenting-related fatigue (I got the first shot during a week when Little OR was with his mom).
