I didn't have time to look up a breakfast on a ship image, so I used a breakfast image I already had open.

Oh, no problem. I got here early enough today that the daily thread wasn't up yet, so I was glad when I saw you created one soon after. Besides, I'm starting to wonder if the naval breakfast images were making me queasy.

I knew someone who had been in the Navy on a destroyer, early 1960's, and he had stories about how the old salts would react when new sailors would get seasick. Suffice to say it was not something to reduce their bout of seasickness.

He also related being yelled at while he's trying to fix a tube radio system during bad seas during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Given the chassis was swinging around on its slides out of the rack, that was not an easy job.

Wow. I can't even remotely see how most of today's college graduates could even comprehend handling that level of stress.

These people want awards for virtue signaling.

Ill-omened initiative by the Biden Administration:

The attempt to suppress mentholated cigarettes and flavored cigars, as a combination "public health" and "race equity" executive action.  Supposedly this is because the use of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars is higher in the black community, and the health effects of tobacco are a "serious public health problem."  Now, neither menthol cigarettes nor flavored cigars are illegal, but the administration is trying to suppress these legal products via executive action---and doing so in part because the black community is "disproportionately affected."  Not only is this suppression of a legal product disturbing, the nanny-government aspect of "the blacks aren't doing the right thing, so we have to make them" is deeply fascistic.  However, that's not the worst of it; this is the thin end of the wedge to start suppressing guns and "high-capacity magazines," both legal, as a "public health problem," and one which, again, "disproportionately affects the black community."  If they get away with the menthol ban, the magazine ban is right around the corner.

Hmm.  "Special treatment" is a term with a certain, um, historical resonance.

I'm thinking 14th Amend, ADA, and a bunch of other laws this runs afoul of.

Couldn't this run afoul of the concept of equal application of the law?

Oh, my. Today's woke virtual signaling also includes the following:

A local university has a department where the fashion/sewing/couture students receive credits and take majors. (Who knew.) Said department has a student-run organization, and one of their yearly offerings is a fashion show.

(breathes deeply to minimize stress from the craziness of an institution of higher ed offering courses on fashion--although I will admit that historical analysis of dress and clothing could be very interesting)

With COVID, the fashion show is going to be held virtually. Fine. The theme of this year's fashion show? Well, they have to focus on diversity and inclusion, right? So the theme (I won't give you the title) involves monochromatic fashion, meaning all the designs showcased are going to be just one color, because this indicates togetherness, diversity, specialness, and beauty. Because diversity means identicalness, right?

I need to go drown my sorrows for the education in the US in a giant cup of hot chocolate.

My hairdresser is from India.  She just recently came back after visiting family (this was before the latest outbreak) and said that nobody cared and people were completely cavalier about everything.

I guess it does make sense for others to study these things. For me, I am one of the least fashion-conscious people around. I really don't care and find it to be a huge waste of money.

Perhaps I'm really an alien life form. That might explain some things.

What I expect is the triple double.

Double digit inflation, interest, and unemployment.

I also expect a housing bubble 2.0.

With all the bans on eviction, there is going to be a huge wave of land owners defaulting on their loans with the drop in rent income. That's going to cause another banking crisis.

Exercise in jumping to conclusions.....

Pregnant Black women face much greater risk of death than white women

Of course the cause is institutional racism in the medical community.

We won't discuss how blacks are less likely to seek medical care. That blacks have a greater number of underlying conditions for a huge number of reasons.

Biden makes a gaffe - and tells the truth

This is what he said, according to a New York Times transcript of the president’s remarks: "The United States accounts, as all of you know, for less than 15 percent of carbon emissions. The rest of the world accounts for 85 percent. That’s why I kept my commitment to rejoin the Paris Accord, because if we do everything perfectly, it’s not going to matter.
