A common theme which unfortunately defines government is the inevitable hypocrisy frequently on display. If we bother to look at the difference between what these bureaucrats and agencies claim to care about and what they actually do, we will see it plain as pile of trash in the woods. A few days ago, I visited the Washington State Department of Ecology‘s property located in Lacey, Washington. I took photos of the massive garbage piles, drug needle piles, open pit latrines, small motor and bike chop shops, piles of burned garbage, toxic waste landfills, and other absurd activities taking place in their front yard. Much of these activities were within plain view of the offices of the Department of Ecology and every single employee, including Director Laura Watson, drove right past these activities every day, and they did nothing. Nothing at all.
This same agency is actively going after, suing and forcing farmers to get rid of cattle when they have the POTENTIAL to pollute.
There is a huge gap between people with a sense of humor and the woke crowd without one. The gap is so large it is a sarchasm.

I've been running through all of the family's discarded cars for about 20 years now: my mother's old car; one of my brother's, one of my sister's (and was THAT a lemon!); and now, the car Mom had when she died. It comes in useful every now and then, but most of the time it's a matter of looking for this or that alternate-side-parking space. Unfortunately, renting a parking space is quite expensive---when you can find one.
Nonetheless, it's nice to have despite the headaches.

Oh, and by the way; I was taking it into the mechanic because it was intermittently not starting when the ignition was turned on. Naturally, today it started right up, which will make finding the problem source that much more difficult; it's sort of like the toothache that's been torturing you for days disappearing on the morning of your dentist's appointment.

One day, it would not start, until AAA showed up - and it started right up.
Mechanic took a few hours to find the loose wire.

I can't imagine not having a car. Living in rural America is very, very different from city life. I don't think the Greyhound stops in my little town anymore, nor any town near here. I have to have the car just to get to the bus! I bet the nearest passenger train is over100 miles away. I'd have to hitch a buggy ride with the Amish to get there.

I live fairly far from Boston, but can walk to the commuter rail in 10 minutes.
No supermarkets within walking distance, though. (Maybe 6 miles). Several convenience stores, but they are not well stocked with things like fresh vegetables. Lots of beer, wine, and even hard liquor, though. (And in Mass. it is difficult for these stores to get liquor licenses, at least in most towns. Not this one.) I refer to one owner as Apu. He worked at the store he now owns when the owner died, and bought it from the widow. He and his family work hard, though, but the store meets fine Calcutta standards. I have at times wondered if the floor would hold up.

I'm about one block away from milk, bread, cheese, eggs (the staples) but no fresh vegetables. The nearest town where you can get everything you NEED is about 10 miles away. The nearest city (Appleton, Wausau or Green Bay) where you can everything you could possibly WANT is about 45-60 miles away. Works out okay for me.

There's a supermarket less than 10 miles away. It is very small. When the local chain sold to a national one, the national chain closed it. A couple of years later, it reopened, but with local ownership. (I think they franchise from the national chain, since they sell the national chain's house brands).
I think the reason they opened was the town let them have a beer and wine license (rare in Mass), and they are across the parking lot from a cheap motel (advertises high speed internet, probably 90% used for porn.)
There are much better supermarkets at about twice the distance, but that one isn't bad.

Every place sells alcohol here; the grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores. About the only place that you can't buy alcohol at are the churches! The number of licenses are controlled, but the numbers must be very high. Needless to say, most of the beer depots and liquor stores have closed here. They were put out of business by all the competition. There are still a few in bigger cities.

These were coming in every 20 minutes. Had the fax answer one - no spam calls for hours. At least some of the robocaller machines detect fax tones and flag the number as a fax, not to be called. I was able to hear enough of the message when I had the device start receiving.
