Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 1: There's a kosher restaurant in Jerusalem that was selling "lamb bacon" but was told their kashrut certificate would be revoked unless they stopped calling it "bacon". Now it is "lamb facon"

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 2: I've heard of "lamb bacon"---there was a restaurant in the Village that featured it---but I never got around to trying it. I'm sure that the place is closed now, thanks to our pandemic measures.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 3: When I was growing up, we had "Beef Rye", from Morrison and Schiff (kosher)

BTW, I will occasionally use Morningstar Farms vegetarian "meat", including their strips that are sort of like bacon, and I dubbed them "facon" a long time ago. Those and their Griller Prime "burgers" and I can have kosher facon cheeseburgers.

In #7 Kosh's Shadow said: Was it served on toast, aka Shit on a Shingle? That brings back memories. For those of us that don't cook - heat together a can of cream of celery or mushroom soup, frozen peas and chipped beef served on extremely crisp toast. Made that a lot in our early (poorer) days for supper. May have to keep that recipe handy for when inflation really hits the food budget.

Reply to Alice in Dairyland in 8: Beef will be banned (except for the elite). You will have creamed chipped tofu. (/I wish)

In #13 Alice in Dairyland said: I had to google Victory Stew and now I'm more confused than ever. What is Victory Stew? Some kind of barely-edible stew eaten in the novel 1984, served in the Ministry of Truth cafeteria (to the lower workers) Everything there is labeled "Victory", like "Victory Gin"

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 14: Urban Dictionary said fraternity prank where "everyone defecates in a pot"...and that's where I quit reading it. Other references were like "Victory Garden" type soups. We had friends that made "Garbage Soup". It was every edible in the frig dumped in a stock pot the night before garbage pickup.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 16: Not to change the subject, but do you have the holiday off or have to go into work tomorrow? Being "retired" myself, everyday is a holiday for me!

Reply to Alice in Dairyland in 17: I even get paid for tomorrow (but not all the holidays the place I work has - my contract agency only pays for some of them)
