The Chinese might have changed the transliteration of their capital to Beijing, but the government is doing a lot of Peking at their citizens.

Never, ever for breakfast!  Fish do not belong on the breakfast table nor in a taco.  I know there are people that love fish tacos but I'm not one of them.  I was raised a good catholic girl.  Fish is best served on a Friday night; deep fried perch is the choice fish and served with plenty of tartar sauce, french fries, coleslaw and a slice of rye bread.  I say plenty of tartar sauce because in these parts of Wisconsin you dip your fries in it too.  No cheese is served at this meal though.

Oh yeah, a glass of beer too.  I hang my head in shame, how could I have forgotten the beer?

I have long suspected you were a whitefish supremacist.

I'm one who loves a fish taco.... Taco Del Mar makes great one, I had some from a taco truck...

Okay... now I'm hungry and the ribs on the grill still have a few hours to go.

I also like dipping fries in tartar sauce. But no fish at all at breakfast? No lox and bagels?

I am also on board the “no fish for breakfast“ train.

not a big fan of fish in tacos, either, but I can tolerate it for some high-quality tuna.

The bagel sounds good.  Just needs a schmear of cream cheese.  Perfection!

With lox? Actually, it is almost impossible to find lox today (salt cured). Smoked salmon will have to do.

My father used to buy the whole whitefish every now and then.   As a kid, they grossed me out---the look of the whole fish, with the head; the idea of dealing with lurking bones; and, of course, the smoked-fishy smell.

Now in my mid-late adulthood, I've enjoyed eating these things when someone else is doing the catering---to which I will add that whitefish off the fish itself is much better than "whitefish salad"---but I still haven't quiiiiiite managed to muster the nerve to buy one of these things on my own.

I guess there'll be all the more for you.  You can have mine.  Sorry, I just can't do fish for breakfast.  I can do the bagel though.

I liked the whitefish at the shul Brotherhood breakfasts, except for the bones. Too much trouble.

Been a while since I had any.

My recently-deceased friend was trying to get me onto Facebook, as a way of "building my brand"; it was her idea that it would be useful to connect with a lot of the artists who are on there already---many of whom I know, or knew back in the day---to remind them what a brilliant and charming and knowledgeable type I am, both in case they need legal assistance and, if they happen to be teaching at an art school, to get them to have me lecture, whether remotely or live. I especially need to do something now that I left my former teaching gig.

That said, keeping one's mouth shut on Facebook when people start spewing Leftist lunacy is pretty difficult.

As for Facebook, I wanted to set up a BehindBook for dogs (since dogs sniff each others' behinds to tell who is who)

But that requires smellphones

(Can't find the cartoon of a Dog Obedience School reunion with all the dogs having the "Hello, I am Rover" stickers on their behinds)

I hadn't heard it had finally come to that.  Sorry it had to end that way.  Personally, I think you are better off out of there.  Not worth the hassles.  Now if they had paid you a great amount of money, that would be a different story.

Quite agree.  I don't remember if I posted in the Frontier on this, or just the passing day thread---but the wokies were harassing me over a supposed "incident" during my re-education camp course, but would not state what said "incident" was---and, when I told them that, since I'd received my completion certificate, whatever "incident" they were referring to was now closed, they did not let up.

It seemed that the choice would be to stay and teach, knowing that the wokies would be laying for me if I burped out of turn, or to walk out on my own terms.  I chose the latter.

The friend who's trying to get me up to speed on this avoids all politics like the plague; he regards it as an intrusion into his business model.  I'm trying to follow that lead as best I can, but...let's say it's a strain.

And yes, apparently 7-Eleven stores got that name because they were originally (beginning in 1946 ) open for the then-unprecedented hours of 7 AM to 11 PM.

Yes, but did Apu work there back when 7-11 opened?/

Where I live has 3 convenience stores (2 when we moved here). All 3 sell beer and wine; the third also has hard liquor. And when we moved here, that one was opened, and they all could sell alcohol on Sunday, because the town allowed it, and we are close enough to New Hampshire that the state allowed it, so Mass. stores would not lose business to the NH ones.

Shortly around the time we moved here, the owner of one passed away, and an Indian guy who worked there bought it at a good price. He now owns the laundromat, I understand some low rent housing, etc. He and his family largely run everything. I refer to him as Apu.

The store meets the highest Mumbai or Kolkata standards. But I go there first. The other one, no one paid attention to me until it changed management a few years ago. The third one is also apparently owned by Indians, but when I go there they watch me; they might be Muslims. The store I go to has always been friendly to me.

Happy for the company.

Rented a power boat yesterday afternoon cruised around Lake Washington to Fisherman's terminal.

Today... work. Have to do some updates for a critical review tomorrow. Down side of salary position, the job is project and deadline orientated.
