In #1 lucius septimius said: Frederick Forsyth: Poland beat the Nazis and Stalin - they'll eat EU bullies for breakfast I have a lot of respect for the people of Poland. They beat back Communism; they can almost certainly stand up to the empty suits of the EU.

Reply to vxbush in 2: They lost my respect when they decided to refuse to accept responsibility for any of their Jew-hatred during WWII. Yes, the camps were German, but the Poles had their own pogroms, and often cooperated with the Nazis. And it is now illegal in Poland to say Poles had any responsibility in either helping the Nazis or committing their own pogroms. People have been sued and books banned.

I love the "we want you to do something but we won't tell you what it is" tug of war game.

Reply to vxbush in 5: This is largely only covered in the Israeli press (jpost). I forgot to add they want to ban restitution of property stolen from Jews in WWII on the basis that the Nazis took it, not them. Passed the Polish senate, but it might stop there.

To me, that is like someone who had a bank robber run through his yard, get caught, and drop the bag in the yard, and refuse to return the bag on the basis he didn't steal it; it was left in his yard. That is still use of stolen property.

Reply to JCM in 8: Reminds me of a scene in Marty Feldman movie "The Last Remake of Beau Geste". It had a headline declaring the winner of the either Boer or Crimea war by the side that had the most casualties.

So, yesterday I took Little OR to the National Gallery, which is fully open, masks-optional, and very pleasant (and not crowded).
On the way back, we drove by the OAS building, which I pointed out to him: “That nice-looking building is the Organization of American States”. He saw the building, but also noticed what was parked in front of it, and replied: “Okay, Daddy, but I also see the Organization of American Ice Cream Trucks… can we get ice cream?’

Reply to Occasional Reader in 14: It's funny that the B & J board chair refers to Ilhan Omar as "the first black Muslim member of Congress." Keith Ellison might have something to say about that. Interesting that this woman has a Hindu-sounding name, but seems remarkably Leftist/Muslim sympathetic. It's getting difficult to avoid ethnic stereotyping, much as I'd like to; theres that Indian councilwoman in Seattle (Sawant?), an equally-nutty Congresswoman (Pramila Jayapal), and, of course, the lovely Christine Amanpour
