Good morning. Today is “pajama day“ at my son’s daycamp. Therefore, I am authorizing all of you to wear pajamas as well.

Anyone else notice today's Google doodle? All the letters are wearing masks and doing a TikTok dance. Tell me again how Big Tech isn't perpetuating government propaganda.

Oh, I wish. I have to at least dress in jeans, but then I'm on site.

I'm onsite full time as of Monday. I've gotten so spoiled over the last five years or so, but I know it's better for me to have the enforced discipline of getting up and going to the office every day.

I noticed that as well.  They really are starting the full-court press for masks and lockdowns.

WSJ (paywall, unfortunately) had a piece today by the author of a study from Stanford on pro- and anti-vax sentiment. The point was that "misinformation" has had no effect.  A year ago 35% said they wouldn't get jabbed; today it's 35% still.  And the highest resistance is among blacks, followed by Hispanics, whites, and Asians.

Of course, you are also free to work today while wearing skimpy, lacy lingerie.

Like I am.

A classic.

That could almost have been my mom, who did "the Grand Tour" of Europe along with a (female) cousin (courtesy of an affluent aunt) maybe a half-decade after that photo was taken.

They're wearing blue masks and they have little yellow band-aids on their arms.

For whatever reason, I am very sensitive to manipulative techniques in advertising or any kind of messaging. This is an example of "If you're like me." Often the ad opens with those very words - I've seen it used to sell anything from patio awnings to hair products. The underlying assumption is that of course you want to be like this pseudo-authority, sitting in the shade with bouncy, shiny hair. And it works, because most people are herd animals who desperately want to be part of the crowd.

Remember the ads that started:

"I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV" with the underlying assumption that makes him some sort of medical authority.

Now, we just get celebrities claiming their celebrity status makes them experts on everything.

Yes, those were beyond silly.

I'm like JCM--I don't care what everyone else wants. Does it meet my needs X, Y, and Z, and is it safe/reliable/sturdy? Car salesmen hate me.

I had arranged with Autobytel (now part of Edmunds, and not as useful) to test drive a car. First salesman to see me said "What will it take for you to  buy this today?" I should have said "You can give it to me free." but I asked for the salesman Autobytel had assigned.

After my truck got totaled, and tore the insurance company new one.

I found a good deal on a new truck and went in.

First thing the dealer did was, oh, sorry that deal is off, it's really this price.... now the new price was in my budget.

I just said you don't sand bag me and walked out.

I guess car salesmen use those stupid, worn-out tricks because they still work on stupid people. When I bought my car in April, I picked it out online and made an appointment to see it. The one I liked turned out to have minor body damage, so I picked a different one. I also had my financing prearranged. I was very pleasant, but the salesman could see I knew what I wanted and he had no need to play games.

I would have told them give me the deal or I'm filing a consumer fraud complaint - bait and switch.

One reason I buy Honda or Toyota is those companies use consumer feedback to control dealer discounts - bad reviews, complaints, no discounts.

I had scheduled maintenance done at a dealer that sells Honda and VW. Same people in the service department.

They had trouble with the car before mine, so they were delayed about an hour. I know things like that happen. They apologized and said the work was on the house.

But  they were not as nice to VW customers.

I did file a complaint. With both the dealer's corporate office, they have lots of car lots. And with the AG.

But WA AG spent all his time suing Trump so never did his job.

On the subject of I'll pick what product to use by how it fits my needs:

I've been playing around with two game engines (for writing computer games): Unreal and Unity.

Unreal is fantastically powerful, but tricky to use and there is a lot to learn. They have very good online courses, however. The courses show you how to use the product. There are some things they could explain better, and they move fast - I have to pause to duplicate what they are doing, even if it is just clicking on something. But they don't waste my time.

Unity is simpler and doesn't bog down the computer as much, and I would prefer right now to have fun and write simple games. But beyond showing how to use some sample projects it comes with, the online courses are largely videos about what developers like about it. I've been skipping them and giving feedback that I'll decide what to use based on how it works, and that Unreal learning gives me what I need to know.

(Also, I had more trouble installing Unity, even though it is half the size of Unreal - and Unreal keeps downloading more stuff. And Unity only allows two computers for the free version (and if you make $100,000 you have to pay). Unreal is free but when you reach $1 million in gross revenue, you pay royalties )

Seattle is having an election for Mayor and some Clowncil seats, today is Election Day.

New reports say the people of Seattle are unhappy with the governance of the city.

This early headline tells me the residents of Seattle have not learned a damn thing.

Two Seattle City Council seats up for grabs, incumbent Mosqueda holds wide lead

Mosqueda is one of the ones who helped turn Seattle into a Third World Shit Hole.

Yes.

There is a mailbox service across from the Courthouse, which is next to a major homeless camp. This service is the primary pick up location for the various checks the homeless get, it also cashes the checks for the homeless. Busy, busy place.

During an audit it was found thousands of mail in ballots that were voted went to this service.

Despite state law saying ballots have to go to a primary residence only.

RE: Seattle Election.

Pot Head Pot Holmes is running for a fourth term as with defense attorney..... err prosecutor.

He has a WA (R) running against him and some one who make Holmes look like a hanging judge.

Holmes does not prosecute misdemeanors and pleads many felonies down to misdemeanors. They cook the crime reports to make it look like crime is going down.

Any the lefty running against him has this write up in the article.

“Abolition is not about ignoring harm, it’s not about ignoring victims,” said Thomas Kennedy.

She is running as an “abolitionist”.

She argues that Holmes is prosecuting too many petty crimes, criminalizing poverty and wasting money in the process—money that could be invested in preventing crime in the first place.

“Abolition isn’t just a process of abolishing the police and tomorrow we wake up in a lawless society,” said Thomas-Kennedy. “It’s about a process of building up community so they handle and deal with things before they become a problem.”
