Reply to lucius septimius in 2: He's a great follow on Twitter @robkhenderson. I actually signed up for his newsletter just yesterday. Not many people have experienced both poverty and the elite world of academia and fewer still can write about it as clearly as he does.

Mom's in pretty bad shape. I can't believe they sent her home. They couldn't make enough money on her - or maybe they'd lose money because Medicare doesn't pay the full costs.

In #4 Kosh's Shadow said: Medicare doesn't pay the full costs Only occasionally do I see any articles pointing out US health care costs started rising very quickly, leading to the rise of HMOs and other managed care, and the demise of indemnity plans, when Congress limited Medicare payments to below the cost of care. Thus, the providers raised rates for everyone else to cover their losses. And with HMOs and PPOs limiting what they can charge, they sock anyone not in one of those plans with huge costs.

Repost from the end of yesterday's thread so people will see it: When I wonder why Boston hasn't gotten so crazy, maybe because it has Black community leaders like this one (link) Boston Rev. Eugene Rivers III, the director at the Seymour Institute for Black Church and Policy Studies, slammed "Squad" member Rep. Cori Bush’s "absurd and ridiculous" call to defund the police, especially as records show she spent tens of thousands of dollars on private security. "The call for the defunding police is not wrong, it's absurd and ridiculous," Rivers, a community activist who served as an advisor for the Bush and Clinton administrations to work on faith-based initiatives, argued on "Fox & Friends" on Friday. "It is absolutely an intellectual and ideological crime against Black people to talk about defunding the police." (my emphasis)

And from the Pub

Little OR liked the Aaron’s Pace Museum, but was not as blown away as I thought he would be. Maybe he’ll appreciate it a bit more when he’s a bit older.

At least he didn't feel he was wandering in the desert for 40 years. Maybe it means more for someone who grew up with some of the exhibits being in the news. BTW, I did get excited about one small satellite - Small Astronomy Satellite C, or SAS-C, because I had a summer job writing a program to plot data from it. The one in the museum is an engineering model or backup, I don't remember which, not the one that was launched. (It detected X-Ray sources, and my program plotted the error box along with various stars, so they could make a transparent copy and overlay a sky survey chart to see what objects were located within it. Now, they'd just put all that up on a computer screen, but computer graphics were expensive in 1975) A different visit, the ST:TOS Enterprise model was hanging in a small room with an exhibit on ET life. I noted the sign about it, and some other woman over heard and said "This is the WHOLE REASON I came to the museum".

By the 2000's it was in a more prominent location in the gift shop

Site seems to be working now. Reported the problem, got escalated because it seemed to be within quota, but thought the server was out of disk space. Again, for the $100/yr I'm paying, smarterasp.net gives excellent service

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 23:
yes, I’ve seen that one, too. We actually went to the air and space annex in Chantilly Virginia today, which in my opinion is the better of The two museums.
