Had breakfast with my old classmates this morning -- last event of our reunion. Got to see a couple of folks I really wanted to see.

In #3 Occasional Reader said: Little OR pronounced it “okay”, and I agree. Just okay. It had its moments, and I want him to appreciate jazz so I liked that element; but it was confusing for little kids, and too much “inside jokes for parents”. If you want him to appreciate jazz, let me recommend that you show him "Stormy Weather" and "Cabin in the Sky"---the two greatest all-black jazz films from Back in the Day. "Stormy Weather," of course, has Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Fats Waller, Ada Brown, Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers; "Cabin in the Sky" has Ethel Waters, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Louis Armstrong and Rex Ingram (as two of the devils trying to grab Anderson's soul), Buck & Bubbles, Lena Horne, and Duke Ellington's orchestra. There are other films with great jazz performances, of course---"42nd Street" and "Goldiggers of 1933," among others---but the first two, being all-black, might serve to provide an introduction without raising possible racial issues. |

The last high-school reunion I went to---years ago---reminded me why I had not been in touch with the overwhelming majority of those people for decades, and the one college reunion I attended inspired much the same reaction.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 3: I've never attended a reunion, and my college is 1/2 hour away. My high school alumni association schedules reunions at places that are to me expensive, and they gave a list of the last attendees - no one I even remembered. There's only one person that I'd want to meet anyway. As for college, there are a couple, but I can see them anyway. My musical selection about reunions

Had a nice cruise on the Potomac with Little OR this morning; then brunch at the Georgetown waterfront… where I proceeded to forget my credit card. I blame “Daddy Brain”.

I also have a cheap Lonovo computer to use as a backup. It has been acting up. Out of warranty. I used a utility (SpeedFan) that showed it was running hot. Sprayed it out from outside, but wanted to check the fan. Computer uses unusual screws. Don't have a Torx T5 - barely has anything to actually grip the screws. Why make it so hard to open? Are they hiding spy devices inside or something? Dell uses normal Philips screws. . My wife and I were joking I'd open it and a Chinese spy - Fang Fang, maybe - would jump out.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 10: As for that computer, SpeedFan allows adjusting the fan speed. Turning on Automatic Fan Speed brought the temp down. BTW, when daughter was in college, her desktop computer was crashing. She came home over a long weekend, and I found the CPU fan was jammed by a screw that had fallen into the heat sink. Got rid of the extra screw and it ran fine. Manufacturing defect.

Note my credit union lets me get notified via text and email for all charges, so I can see fairly quickly if the card has expenses I did not make.
