Game engines aren't just for fun

Researchers from MIT want to speed up the process of monitoring, diagnosing, and fixing problems with multi-billion-dollar supercomputers by visualizing the hardware in the Unity 3D Game engine, similar to the one found in some game titles. Supercomputers are an extremely complex collection of hardware, as they operate with thousands of interconnected systems. However, there might be bottlenecks in the system, and diagnosing those bottlenecks can cost supercomputing facilities time and reduced performance.

My tinfoil hat tells me that this is not just to help determine breaks in supercomputer engines but to crawl the networks across the globe and determine which machines aren't authorized to be there and are supporting dark web platforms.

Morning, campers.

I watched yesterday's posting from Steyn's page, and I'm torn between thinking that the Turning Point gentleman is right--they just want to have an excuse to round us up, especially now that the school board letter was used as the justification to warn parents that they would be arrested by the FBI--and thinking that we'll be so genteel that we'll never reach a point where we think it is justified to fight against the tyranny. Why were the colonies of the 1700's willing to stand up and die, and we aren't?

In answer to your question; because, for instance, this very measure has gotten ferocious pushback and is turning into a disaster for the regime.

We are not at the point where we have to press triggers yet. Hopefully we never will be.

I think Joe Biden as president is way too scary for a costume

Which gives me an idea for a cyberpunk game

I couldn't get it together for the costume contest today at my office. I might wear my Dia de los Muertos costume to a winery tomorrow. What are you dressing as?

Former employer would go all out for Halloween. HR would decorate the place. At least they only tried to scare people with props OTHER than fake pink slips.

One time they made their cubicle area into a pirate ship and all dressed as pirates.
Maybe over lunch or the weekend I'll remove EXIF data and post a few images.

Somehow I suspect that HR would frown on men wearing "prepare to be boarded" pins.

I hate to make you all work on a Friday, but I have a legal question.  If a person (a woman) in Wisconsin gets a restraining order against someone (a man) in Florida whom they feel is threatening their life, does the person from Florida have to come to Wisconsin in response to this order?  The side of this family that supports the Florida man is all upset because the poor little thug has to come to WI to respond to this or he can never come to Wisconsin again without the threat of being arrested and he can't afford this trip.  Does he have to come to Wisconsin in response in the first place?  Can't he just sign something in Florida saying he's received the restraining order?  Wouldn't he just have to avoid contact with the woman in he came here?  Remember, I am not a lawyer, keep it simple if possible.

Of course it was.  Or at least they all identified as women.

At my former employment the head of HR was a man.  I think everyone there knew he was misgendered but him.  He wasn't gay, he was down-right womanly.

That's the one.

/and of course, "short" is relative... 90-somethingth percentile in height for his age!

Even the Post Office workers are in the Halloween theme. Woman there had a costume with an inflatable dog with spiked collar biting her behind.
