In #6 Alice in Dairyland said: I agree with your statement, but... Some of these locations have no other choice. It's the RINO or the Dem. While the RINO is not a good choice, the Dem is usually a worse choice. At least it sends the message that people won't knowingly vote for the democrat's platform. It's just the lesser of two evils sometimes. Having filled out my ballot in NYC the other day---for all the good it did---I am well aware of the "lesser of two evils" necessity, the more so because there was not even a "lesser of two evils" option on the ballot in many cases. For most of the judgeship slots, the Republicans put up...nobody at all. Zero. Zippo. For at least two of the judgeships, their ballot line held the same name as that in the Democrats' slot, and for five more (I think; I should have photographed the ballot with my phone), the Democrat was the only person running. People often, and rightly, castigate Senators like Lindsey Graham or Mitch McConnell for their sudden and unpredictable bolting from conservative positions. And these are people elected, re- and re-re-re-elected, from "solidly conservative states." I would love the opportunity to vote for candidates like these so-called "RINOs" or "squishes" (as the Conservative Keyboard Warriors never tire of calling them); it would be a welcome change from the opportunity to vote for ...nothing, except the preferred candidate of the One-Party Dictatorship. My point is that these Conservative Keyboard Warriors---many from allegedly "solid conservative states"---constantly elect those they decry as "RINOs," and then turn around and get all snotty and superior about the terrible choices people supposedly make in places like New York ("You voted deBlasio in---you deserve him"). To hell with these arrogant fatmouths, who supposedly can elect the conservativest of the conservatives (solid-red-state, you know), then don't, and spend their time pissing and moaning about the "RINOs" they themselves preserve in office while sneering at those who do not have the option that they throw in the gutter. Lest we forget, for all the crowing about how Florida is the Noble Vanguard Conservative State, that state was all ready to relect Andrew Gillum, former mayor of Tallahassee, as the First Black Governor of Florida, until he was caught out in a sex-and-drugs scandal. DeSantis was the fluke governor. Florida also has Marco Rubio and Rick Scott as Senators; Rubio talks a good game, but he often still appears to be auditioning for the role of John McCain Junior. Scott...well, when was the last time anyone heard anything about him? In sum, I am sick to death of both the gasbag preening by these "solid conservatives" who cannot seem to elect one from their "solid conservative" states, and of their flatulent overbearing about those of us who do not have the opportunities that they constantly and continually toss in the gutter.

You know, with all the racebaiting and "Uncle Tom" accusations we see thrown around lately, maybe we should start referring to patriotic Americans as "Uncle Sams."

Good morning. So, you may have already heard that a snap inspection by the US Marshal Service found appalling conditions at the DC city jail; this was, apparently, prompted by complaints by some of the January 6 protesters/rioters/insurrectionists (pick one! or more!) who are being held there. NPR’s spin on this whole story was, of course, “why were the appalling conditions in DC jails only investigated after these January 6 Insurrection [sic] WHITE prisoners complained.” DC has had black mayors continuously and uninterruptedly since 1967. But the story here is still “white supremacy”, or something.

OSHA Vaccine Mandate Released, 84 Million Workers Face Jan. 4 Deadline The Biden administration has released the new rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requiring 84 million private sector workers to get vaccinated for COVID-19 by Jan. 4, 2022. The administration has also announced its rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Assistance (CMS) requiring 17 million health care workers participating in federal health programs to be vaccinated. The White House is also pushing back the deadline for workers in those sectors as well as federal contractors to get fully vaccinated to Jan. 4, 2022, according to a senior administration official.

I have had to vote for the RINO when left with no other choice (at least I had a choice, there was an R on the ballot); but I have never voted for the RINO if there was another R option, even if they were the "underdog". Never saw it as throwing my vote away. I do believe it sends a message. Of course there's always the chance I'm just shouting into the wind. "and spend their time pissing and moaning about the "RINOs" they themselves preserve in office". What better way to expose them if that was the only choice you had. It gives their opponent (if they have one) a better chance next time. Kind of like the NJ truck drive that only spent $153 on his campaign and made his commercials with his nephew's I-phone. He may have beat a longtime Senator(?).

Rumor has it that the Democrats are all ordering Double-Down™ vests for Christmas. These garments serve the dual purpose of silently signaling their political ideology, and insulating them from the chill indoor temperatures that are anticipated in the wake of the energy shortage due to Joe Biden's policies. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is the odds-on favorite for being named the Yuletide Lord of Mis-Rule.

Today is the day of weird tech problems. I have had to unplug and plug in monitors in at least two rooms today. Bizarre.

So buzz recently vented about one flavor of "conservative" internet poster who drives him to distraction. I'll add another flavor; the ones who go all the way to outright denying that COVID-19 is a pandemic in any way. See the comments here, for instance.

Heh. Well, I haven't seen those... yet. On the other hand, Little OR's mom texted me this morning a photo of something she'd just picked up for him: A Lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar. As Djimon Hounsou's character says in the film Gladiator, upon first seeing the Coliseum: "I did not know men could build such things."

The Colosseum is nice, but the mynah bird at the little bistro across the street from it is really charming.
