I suppose we get to go back and change how we described their incident on July 7?

I disagree with the first part; we the people (barroom braggarts or not) are perfectly free to offer our opinions regarding court cases that are in the news, and there's generally nothing wrong with doing so.  But the second part, yes, the POTUS should not be mouthing off on the subject, because that truly does endanger the rights of the accused.

Oh, hooray, we're tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve; that way it'll be nice and depleted if we face an actual crisis-crisis, like a war or embargo.

Gosh, if only there were some magical, fantastic way for the US to become a net energy exporter, so that we wouldn't have to resort to such desperate measures.

I found news last week that oil from the reserve was being sent overseas, but I don't recall where that was. Bother.

I suspect the barroom line is intended more as rhetorical flourish than substance.  The following paragraph gets to the heart of the matter and, from what I've seen, neatly summarizes the attitude of the left as they've been broadcasting it since MeToo:

In the minds of the ranting radicals of the Squad or MSNBC, dimly repeated by the president, these so-called rights—presumption of innocence, due process, trial by jury, proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, etc., are not the bedrock legal protections against overweening authority the Anglo-Saxon jurisprudence has deemed them to be. In the minds of the regnant left when they find the defendant unsympathetic, they are inconveniences, fetishized excrescences of judicial process that obstruct and subvert the larger and more important objective of social justice. In this increasingly popular account on the left, they are the armor with which the capitalist white supremacists protect their hegemony. As such they can be dismissed.

While I don't disagree with the paragraph, I'm thinking this transition to demonize white people who may have committed a crime against white black people was in place before the social justice nonsense got into full swing. Hispanic White George Zimmerman was not our first contestant in this, was he?

If we really are to have a democracy, then the will of the majority must be the deciding factor in cases like this!

Yes, but it just gets to a pet peeve of mine; people who declare that no one should be opining on an ongoing criminal trial, "because the defendant has the right to a presumption of innocence!".  That's an evidentiary rule, for court proceedings, not some sort of general moral rule regarding public discussion.

Biden is not the most powerful man in the world. Whoever is telling him what to do might be.

Few now remember that Charles Manson almost walked because Richard Nixon referred to him, while the case was still being tried,  as being "responsible, directly or indirectly," for the Family murders.

Fauci on the top of the hour news... "We are following the science.... we hope the booster extends the effectiveness...."

Are you following the science? Or are you hoping? Which is it?

We follow the science, the studies so far show that the booster extends the effectiveness....

That's how a real doctor / sciences would say it.

It would be nice if they considered all the facts first.  My leftist sister still thinks Kyle Rittenhouse should have gotten the death penalty and his mother should face charges too for taking him across state lines!  I'm afraid she gets most of her news from her friends on Facebook.  Good thing her opinions don't mean a hill of beans to me; but I guess she's entitled to them, right or wrong.

I don't remember which case of a black thug being killed by a white (or white Hispanic?) guy they were discussing, but at a former job, my NPR-listening co-workers were bemoaning the person was acquitted.

I pointed out if you got your news from MSNBC or the Boston Globe, or Fox, you would consider the coverage to be of two quite different cases. Only the jurors got all the evidence and voted to acquit.

That shut them up.

Jonah Goldberg's and Stephen Hayes' departures from Fox may have been based on something other than principle.

Fox had no plans to renew their contracts in 2022.
