As you know, she works for the gubmint, and it was a jab at something her boss was in the news for. A little rude, but not offensive IMO. She took offense and blew up at him. She can't talk about that stuff, but he didn't know that. She insisted he should have known that and he was being deliberately rude. Anyway, he's over it, she left this morning, and I'm not sure I want to host another holiday for quite some time.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was sort of curious. There were certain items that we usually have that were absent, mainly because mom is dead and took the recipes with her to the grave. Fat load of good they'll do her there.

Reply to lucius septimius in 3: What gets me is that I'm at the mercy of their (mostly eldest daughter's) plans. If they want to come here, even if they decide at the last minute, my wishes are irrelevant.

Now I’m intrigued. If you don’t mind Frontiering the actual joke, or e-mailing it to me, I’d love to see it.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 6: Okay, posted in the Frontier for a limited time only. I know I can trust your discretion. Funny thing is, the only thing I wanted from this visit was to play board games. We used to play on every holiday, and now there is no one among my family or friends who is willing to play with me.

We take turns hosting Christmas since my mother died. When one of my sisters hosts, I not only have to pack all our gifts and some food to share but I also have to bring the games. Come to think of it, even when it was at Mom's, I had to bring the games. Now it is especially important, it keeps us from discussing current events. Have I mentioned that one sister is a stark raving lunatic? Yes, yes, I believe I have.

Reply to vxbush in 9: Reply to doppelganglander in 13: The date is Christmas Eve. Nothing to cerebral though and certainly not Jeopardy! Oh, and as the night goes on, the rules tend to get bent a little. The only real rule we follow is you have to have a good sense of humor because everybody laughs at your stupid mistakes (sometimes for years). Poor sports don't fare well here.
