Glimmers of sanity somewhere in the Western world:
Denmark lifts almost all Covid restrictions
From another source: "“We say goodbye to the restrictions and welcome the life we knew before,” [PM Mette] Frederiksen said. “As of Feb. 1, Denmark will be open.” Note that she's welcoming "the life we knew before", not repeating this "the new normal" palaver that the so-called "elites" have been breathlessly talking about for two years. That's important.

Sometimes, I think the mask mandates are because the elites don't want to see the faces of the peasants. "The peasants are revolting" "Yes, they are"

That's important. Well, they are seeing an increase in the number of deaths. This could be simply the usual increase of winter deaths, or it could mean something else. I haven't seen a graph similar to this one that shows what their excess death rate is.

Questions to place on the table. Ukraine. - Does the US have a compelling national interest in Ukraine?
- Is Russian expansionism enough of a compelling reason?
- How far does US interest go in supporting Ukraine?
Me I keep seeing visions of 1939. But I haven't convinced myself that we have a national interest, or lack one in Ukraine.

Would the activities of one Hunter Biden and the accused corruption that take place associated with him be a compelling national interest? Would it not shed serious light on the presidency of Biden? That isn't exactly a national interest in the classic sense of the word, meaning a geopolitical ally of significant weight, or a provider of key resources that we cannot get ourselves.

Reply to vxbush in 7: Putin, oh hell Xie and Un would not being getting frisky with Trump in office. Trump, had that "cowboy" edge that makes foreign adversaries pause. A cowboy edge that IMAO, a US leader needs. The Biden family corruption plays a huge role in the current world situation, and Ukraine in particular.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 8: That's my concern. I don't thing Putin would challenge NATO, yet. He roll the 'stans back up first. The start eyeing the Baltic states and some of the former Warsaw pact, now NATO countries.

Looks like the jobless numbers are going to be awful... White House Warns Latest Jobs Data Will Be Ugly Due to Omicron Deese, Psaki warn Covid illnesses are counted as job losses That has never been the case. U-3 unemployment counts only people receiving unemployment benefits, counts more unemployed. But the numbers have never included people taking sick days paid or not.

But the Hunter Biden laptop—and the cries of “Russian disinformation” that followed—raise a timely question: Given the Bidens’ Ukraine-related activities, what additional information does Moscow have on the first family? Hunter Biden’s problems with substance abuse, prostitutes, and money would have made the vice president’s son an ideal target for foreign intelligence services. Worse, Joe Biden seems to have eagerly promoted his son’s shakedown efforts, even boasting publicly about using his office to interfere in Ukraine’s political and judicial systems, in ways that directly benefited his son’s employer. There is surely no shortage of oligarchs, Ukrainian and Russian, who are eager to share information about their dealings with the Bidens in order to gain influence with Putin and undo rival billionaires. One can assume that all of that information has made its way by now to Putin’s table. The article goes on to make an interesting point: Given the amount of genuinely compromising material tying Joe Biden and his son to shady dealings involving Ukraine and Russia, including a $3.5 million payment Hunter received from the widow of the former mayor of Moscow in 2014, it’s worth asking if the 46th president of the United States was the initial target of the Hillary Clinton-funded Russia dossier? In fact, allegations about the Bidens’ activities in Ukraine, sourced in part, it seems, to the Clinton campaign, made their way into The New York Times in 2015, encouraging Biden to dispel second thoughts about reentering the 2016 race. The Steele dossier has long since been revealed as nothing but utter nonsense, but with the Bidens as a target rather than Trump, it’s at least easier to make sense of its contents, especially the notorious “pee tape.” Trump is a well-known germaphobe; it was always hard to imagine him agreeing to being micturated upon by hookers on a hotel bed in Moscow. Nor would Republican primary voters likely care about ladies of the night soiling a bed that Barack Obama once slept in. But Democrats would think it sacrilegious. And by his own admission, Hunter Biden seems to have spent plenty of nights in hotel rooms with prostitutes. If it seems hard to imagine Donald Trump walking into a hotel in Moscow and asking for the Obama suite, a scenario in which Hunter Biden demanded such lodgings doesn’t take much imagination at all.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 18: Seen it Seattle. Walk out in front of vehicles essentially daring the driver to hit them. Then make a scene if the driver honks or comes too close. Worst case for me was long time ago driving dump truck. Jerk steps out in front of 105,000 pounds of truck and fill dirt. When I blew my horn the air horn, yelled profanities his homies joined him in the street and a drink bottle was thrown at my truck.
