Speaking of "blue," here's the original recording of "Rhapsody in Blue" (1924); Paul Whiteman's orchestra, with George Gershwin at the piano.  If you're familiar with the piece in its modern orchestrations, you'll notice a LOT of difference in tone, tempo and phrasing; it really was a jazz piece when originally brought out, and only later became "symphonic."

It really is a different piece.  I have played both versions for my kids and, by and large, they prefer the tone and tempo of the 1924 recording.

I own a copy of the original pressing.  I was playing it in my dorm room on my Victrola, and a guy from down the hall came by and told me that he "really liked that parody of Rhapsody in Blue" that I was playing.  I explained to him, in perhaps intemperate tones, that, far from a "parody," this is how the piece is supposed to sound.

So, at lunchtime I happened to pass by the (in?)famous "Comet Ping-Pong" pizzeria, and its related group of shops. 

Are you surprised to hear that they're still demanding customers wear masks, and show proof of vaccination?  Even though this "legal" requirement has been lifted in DC?  They still even have signs up on the door declaring that this is a mandate from the Mayor; even though that's no longer true.

And no, I don't think Comet Ping-Pong" has child sex-trafficking tunnels underneath it; but I do know that the people who run this place (and the related shops) are "virtue"-signalling lefties, as is the bulk of their clientele.

The Progs love their face diapers; and love "show us your papers!".

I've been enjoying the freedom from masks. CVS still requires them, but of the places I went yesterday, the adult beverage store dropped the requirement as soon as they were allowed to; the manager clearly preferred to get rid of them, although some customers and employees still wear them.

Another store now only strongly encourages masks for unvaccinated shoppers. No requirement. As usual, some customers and employees wear masks.
