Well, and then there's this conclusion:

Scholars are at near consensus that the Exodus and Israelite establishment in Canaan happened during the 13th century BC. "
The author here is resting on the assumption that the Israelites first arrived in Canaan via Exodus from Egypt. Another possible explanation, of course, is that they were there "to begin with". And my non-scholarly understanding of the thing is that the claim in that second sentence of "near consensus" is stretching things.
