Do you get Monday off for "Juneteenth observed?"

Sounds good.

I'll be checking to see if the stand of yellow cactus roses in the neighborhood, which usually blooms around Juneteenth, is running on schedule this year.  Seems appropriate, since the minstrel-show impresario who was author of the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas" is buried in nearby Green-Wood Cemetery, and Juneteenth started as a Texas observance.

And here's the traditional jukebox: Juneteenth Jamboree

It's been a crazy couple of days here. My youngest daughter was in town so we celebrated her 30th birthday belatedly last night. Today I had workers starting some minor jobs I've been wanting to do for a long time, notably installing a new light fixture in my master bathroom. Tomorrow they're replacing some closet doors, and Tuesday I'm getting a new vanity in the half bath. Gonna be all fancy around here.

It almost seemed like a parody skit.

Everybody's a victim

Everybody has scars

Everybody is special

It doesn't matter who you are

There are barrels of excuses

You can use for your defeats

Or you can lobby for special privilege

That will be cast into concrete

Don't be so crude and tasteless

As to let your talents gleam

Because you just might injure

Someone's fragile self-esteem

Go around with visage downcast

You know it's all society's fault

Stop your ears up like Ulysses

If someone asks "Who is John Galt?"

You can see grievances coming at you every day, long and hard

Some that you recognize, some that you've hardly even heard of

People who recognize that it's too much effort to strive

And instead they want prizes, simply for being alive

Everybody's a victim

Everyone has a grievance too

Though less if you're white, or male

Or should you chance to be a Jew

But please don't feel excluded

Now and then we will relent

And even let you outcasts

In the big tent of resentment

I'm glad my life is a nonstop political grievance show
A world of fantasy victims and fantasy heroes
Because political victims never need any brains
And political victims never have to try...

---apologies to the Kinks, and "Celluloid Heroes"
