Found a house I liked - right size, space I could easily renovate as my office, a great shed/workshop, deck, screen porch, hot tub.  And the price is right.  But daughter doesn't like it.  Even so, I'm trying to get the disclosure.

Other houses - one daughter liked; I liked too but serious water damage.  One whole side of the house the siding was completely wet and rotting.  Another was just weird.  One has real possibilities, but it's been tied up in probate for a long time and not cared for. Broken windows, mold, wasp nests throughout the house.

I've got about 10 more to look at tomorrow.

When we bought this house, close to 25 years ago, the real estate agents wanted to show us more expensive houses than I wanted; ones where the payments made me uncomfortable. One agent made an error calculating what we were supposed to afford and started showing us cheaper houses. She made the sale. We got in just as the area was bottoming out.

We used the realty agency where the owner had rental property for retirement income, and we had rented there for many years at a very good rent (he didn't raise it much over the entire time)

But I had no down payment until some inheritance selling my parent's property in Mattapan. Last white person on the street.

I note they rented the 2nd floor to a biracial couple - and what we wondered about what did a BU professor see in a shipyard worker. Nothing to do with race. But they were nice people.
