The LED bulbs finally came back up to strength yesterday early in the evening. 

Apparently, Con Edison was messing around with something and had warned people there might be power cuts in the area.  We didn't get an actual cut, but an apparent brownout---which, as I said, affected the LEDs, but not the fluorescent or incandescent bulbs.  

I'm not sure what I take away from this; I'm sort-of-glad that if there's a brownout the bulbs don't go away entirely, but at the same time I'm not sure that browning out bulbs is better than a straightforward blackout.  And I am back to viewing LED bulbs with a certain suspicion/wariness.

In further news, I was listening to Naturally Putrid Radio this morning, and they spent a remarkable amount of time describing the travails of a young woman who experienced problems getting a (merited) abortion for her ultimately-born-dead daughter, under the Texas abortion law enacted prior to the Supreme Court voiding Roe v. Wade.

it was a marvelous example of the Leftist propensity to argue the specific when a principle is at issue, and a principle in the event a specific is at issue.

I believe the writers/Roddenberry always furious resisted drawing any straight-line parallels between ST-universe peopleseseses and current affairs.  That said, it was often thought (IIRC) that the Klingons were sorta-kinda the Soviets; the Romulans were the ChiComs.  And then, getting to ST: TNG, we have the rather unpleasant idea that the Ferengi seem like caricatures of Jews, straight out of Der Sturmer.
