Given all that my husband has read and watched about WWII, I know he would love to go visit it.

Good morning. I guess the significance of today's date was rattling around in the back of my subconscious mind, because early this morning I had a dream in which I, along with a friend of mine (Izzy) that I've known since middle school (IRL), are tasked with signing the American acceptance of the Japanese instruments of surrender in WWII. No battleship Missouri, involved, no, this surrender ceremony is doing to take place - obviously! - in a jungle town in Peru. We are supposed to sign these documents (which are printed out on 8-/12 x 11 paper) in advance of the actual ceremony, which will take place later in the day. The first thing I notice when I sit down at the table is that the only available writing instruments for us are purple Sharpies. I complain that there's no way I'm going to sign such an important document with a purple Sharpie, but Izzy admonishes me to just get on with it, we have our orders after all. But, being a lawyer, of course I have to read the document first; and I notice that the document commits the US to paying for all sorts of environmental damages to Japan. I point out to Izzy that this was absolutely NOT supposed to be part of the deal; whereupon I see that some (IRL) Peruvian friends are waving at me from across the river, and saying the REAL instruments of surrender are over here; but be careful, there's a nest of anacondas you'll have to get past in order to reach them. And then I woke up.

I knew someone who signed *all* his documents with Sharpie-style markers. It made for very odd paperwork.

One admission that came out of the deposition is that Fauci’s daughter worked as a software engineer at Twitter during the heat of the government COVID lockdowns and mask mandates — at a time when people were being censored and kicked off the platform left and right for trying to have rational conversations about the COVID response. After declaring that he didn’t use social media and claiming to be ignorant of how it all works, Fauci was asked whether he knew anyone who worked for a social media platform. Fauci was evasive and said he’d had “communications” with Facebook/Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and had some “FaceTime discussions encouraging people to get vaccinated.”
What a lying sack of shit.

Welp - I'm officially enrolled in Obamacare. Thank you for your contributions.
Now, where did I see that 9% of Democrats voters would not have voted for Biden if the story about the laptop had actually been released, and that would have been enough to swing the election and give Trump 313 electoral votes?

I'm guessing they weren't enough to actually make the plan you're on affordable.

Actually I'm not having to pay anything - my taxable income for this year is going to be negative numbers; next year I won't have much income to speak of that losses won't cancel out.

I know what we should do in order to observe Pearl Harbor Day: "Let's get sushi, and not pay!"

I've glad that, for once, archeologists aren't attributing absolutely every graven image of any sort they find to religion/ritual.

And speaking of Peru... in the last few hours, the country's president, Pedro Castillo, announced he was dissolving Congress (he does not have the constitutional power to do that); Congress promptly impeached him and swore in the VP as president; and Castillo is reportedly now under arrest (with the military and police seeming to side with Congress).

So which side will the Left side with? Are they going to say Castillo is a hero and is being treated like a criminal, or is Castillo JUST LIKE HITLER TRUMP????

Back in 1979, around the time of the King Tut exhibit tour, David McCaulay wrote "Motel of the Mysteries", in which USA is buried somehow, and an archaeologist amazingly named Howard Carson digs to an untouched motel room, and describes it as some sort of crypt with an inner and outer chamber (the inner one being the bathroom), and it is quite hilarious. The TV is the main altar, of course. And the "sanitized for your protection" banner is still on the inner altar!

Our conference rooms at work have videoconferencing devices called "Owl". They have "eyes" that glow, and they hoot when they have finished booting.
They have to be unplugged most of the time just in case.

I have a LinkedIn message that asks if I want a job, and it includes the option of sponsorship (H1b) which I do not need.
Even though I can retire on full Social Security (until a good social score is required), I am refraining from replying that no, I am working, and I don't want to be one of the people that the company claims cannot fill the role so they can get someone cheap from India. Had too many interviews that I think were just that.

Actually, you turn down the interview, then they can't get you---so of course they have to go with an Indian import.
On the other hand, if you went for the interview, they'd turn you down for not having the right qualifications---so of course, they have to go with an Indian import.
It's win-win for them.

I had an interview a few years ago for a Python position (not Monty). I got their coding test working perfectly. They said I didn't format my comments well enough for a senior person. If I had taken the time to do so, they would have said I took too long. Given that Python has not been one of my primary computer languages, they picked me for the coding test and interview because they wanted me to fail so they could get someone from India cheap.

That was quite the genre at the time. I recall reading several humorous short stories back then about future archaeologists digging up contemporary sites and coming to all of the wrong conclusions.
Pharaoh Elvis? Well, Elvis is associated with Memphis.

That's from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It needed a gimmick, so several of the songs are in a variety of anachronistic styles. For example, after Joseph's brothers sell him off into slavery, they sing a country/western song to their father about how he was killed by a wild goat. Here's the song about Joseph's time as a slave of Potiphar.
