It's fascinating to hear the beginning formation of a new Leftist narrative.
This mornig, NPR had some academic on who has apparently authored a "paper" of some sort about "the Second Great Migration." We all know of the "Great Migration" of blacks from the South to the North in the late-19th and early-20th centuries; this guy (sorry, did not catch his name) was talking about the "great migration" of white Southerners to the North. Unlike the blacks, who settled largely in urban areas and took the industrial and other such jobs that the urban areas afforded, this guy says that the white Southerners settled "not only in cities, but in small towns and rural areas." And why does he think that this is significant? Why, because (he declares) they brought their neo-Confederate racist and (you guessed it) white-supremacist attitudes with them, along with their conservative and primitive religious practices and attitudes.
This thesis is basically a white-Southerner-diaspora inversion of the old Leftist claims that "Nixon's Southern Strategy" caused a "party switch" in the South that turned the "Solid (Democratic) South" Republican.

To the fallen.
We, collectively and individually, have to EARN their sacrifice.
The finale of "Golddiggers of 1933." It's moving enough in itself, but what one must remember is that this number was filmed, and distributed, when the Bonus Army---the US veterans of WWI, and their families, who had marched on Washington to demand accelerated payment of the "bonus" promised the vets by the US government, in light of the Depression---had just been routed out of their tent city in Anacostia Flats by the US Army, at bayonet-point (with tanks, too!).
The shock and horror of the Army routing these veterans was still fresh, which makes the number all the more vivid.
