Looks like we might have an answer about who has been buying all the land around Travis AFB. Can you say planned community? I feel pretty confident that this will end poorly.

In the picture above, I can figure out each profession except the second one from the right. Hipster?

Reply to vxbush in 1: Don't buy it in the least. A planned community next to a AFB? What comes with an AFB? The Sound of Freedom. The type who like the idea of a living in a "green city"... loathe the noise.

Reply to vxbush in 3: No concrete levels provided in the article. Which means the levels, 88% above the limit again undefined, are so low as to be insignificant.

Didn't some Japanese official eat fish from the area where they released radioactive water? I hope they are working on a Japanese monster movie based on that! But a radioactive super-politician whose superpower is giving long speeches would be quite boaring.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 11: Let's give the radioactive boars the "radioactive" water! About the boars.... the only fact that article gives is the German limit is 600 Bq/Kg of radioactivity, that is a measure of the number of decay events. Background radiation in the food supply from all sources? 400-600 Bq/Kq. In other words the limit cited in the article is upper limit of natural decay events.

Reply to JCM in 12: Radiation hormesis. Even NIH has to admit that low doses of radiation might be beneficial LDIR may promote hormesis. Radiation-induced homeostasis, often termed hormesis, is a theoretical concept that suggests that exposure to LDIR stimulates beneficial pathways. Several reports indicate that the hormetic process boosts cell survival and growth, improves immune functions, and enhances cytogenetic protection [8,9]. Most population-based epidemiological studies do not show a threshold for cancer incidence; however, at LDIR doses below 100 mGy, there is uncertainty as to whether significant increases in cancer incidence occur in humans. Intriguingly, accumulating experimental evidence indicates that the linear no-threshold (LNT) hypothesis cannot be supported by the biological findings following LDIR exposure, demonstrating that LDIR exposure rather reduces the risk of spontaneous cancer [10,11,12]. Even though the phenomenon is not universal, multiple cellular and molecular data support the notion that LDIR-mediated adaptive responses induce hormesis and cell proliferation in normal cells, but not in cancer cells [13,14,15].
