Heard about Hamas firing 5000 rockets into Israel and people being held hostage. Estimates of 100 dead, hundreds injured. Prayers for Israel and our Jewish friends.

I take back the shocked part....

United Nations Secretary General António Guterres urged "maximum restraint" as Israeli Defense Forces conduct a counteroffensive against Hamas terrorists who launched rockets at residential areas Saturday morning.

Israel National News is still up.

Fox news is covering it

I note the following article on the Republican candidates' response

Former President Donald Trump, who maintained a good relationship with Israel during his tenure in the White House, called the attacks a "disgrace" and insisted that Israel should defend itself with "overwhelming force."

"Time to get back to Peace through strength. Time to get back to American leadership. Time to make sure the terrorists in Hamas and Tehran know …. America Stands With Israel," former Vice President Mike Pence, who served in the Trump administration, said.

Fellow Republicans made similar calls to action in support of Israeli retaliation.

"The dastardly terrorist attacks perpetrated against innocent Israeli civilians by Iran-backed terror group Hamas deserve a swift and lethal response," Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida wrote on social media Saturday. "Israel not only has the right to defend itself against these attacks, it has a duty to respond with overwhelming force."

"Make no mistake: Hamas is a bloodthirsty terrorist organization backed by Iran and determined to kill as many innocent lives as possible," former North Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said in a statement Saturday morning. "The reports out of Israel are horrific with a stunning number of dead and wounded and should be universally condemned."

"I am appalled by the barbaric and medieval Hamas attacks," Ramaswamy wrote in a post to X. "Shooting civilians and kidnapping children are war crimes. Israel’s right to exist & defend itself should never be doubted and Iran-backed Hamas & Hezbollah cannot be allowed to prevail. I stand with Israel and the U.S. should too."

Note the squishiest response is from Ramaswamy. Trump, DeSantis, Haley all support "Overwhelming force". Those 3 are the ones I could vote for without holding my nose at all. Assuming we even have an election.

Robert Spencer on

What Went Wrong? How Hamas Managed to Stagger Israel

The Israeli government, however, could fall as a result of this, and certainly bears a great deal of responsibility. Yet here again, the ultimate fault lies with the Biden regime. Ever since Benjamin Netanyahu was reelected prime minister and embarked upon efforts to reform the Israeli judiciary, the Bidenites have been undermining him in every way possible, and have even been accused of funding the massive protests in Israel against the Netanyahu government.

How much of what Hamas was able to get away with on Saturday was the result of the U.S. pressure upon Israel and favoring of the Palestinians, as the American government turned a blind eye to the genocidal jihad rhetoric that permeates the Palestinian areas every day? How distracted was the Israeli government, in having to spend the bulk of its time on internal disagreements that the Biden regime had exacerbated, instead of paying the necessary attention to national defense?

Old Joe Biden finally shuffled out of bed and issued a pro-Israel statement shortly after 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. It is unlikely, however, that the regime for which he is the bumbling, semi-coherent figurehead will depart from its ordinary practice of urging “restraint” upon Israel and condemning it for a “disproportionate” response once the Jewish state takes even the smallest measures to defend itself.

The Biden puppeteers, not Biden himself, who is nothing but a senile figurehead on the ship of state. He certainly isn't steering it, just going where the captain points the ship.

This is the reason Obama's big deal with Israel increasing aid was a trap.

It requires all money to be spent in the US, hurting Israel's defense industry, and giving the US control over Israel's defense. "Do what we say or you will run out of ammo"

The world holds Israel to a (lack of) self-defense standard that applies to no other country. By the IHRA definition of Jew-hatred, this is Jew-hatred.

Admittedly, the Biden administration is doing the same thing here, bringing in our enemies.

Watch Putin complain about Israel's self-defense, after what Russia did to Chechniya

In #33 Occasional Reader said: I hope Israel turns Gaza into a fucking parking lot.

I think Sharon thought that withdrawing from Gaza would show the world Israel is willing to trade land for peace. It showed that Israel traded land for terrorism, but the world keeps pushing Israel to withdraw from more land.

So not a parking lot - throw all the Arabs out and turn it into the garden it was before the withdrawal.

Instead of giving money to Hamas, Qatar can give money to the people and set them up far away from Israel.

But since we know the world won't let Israel do that, the MINIMUM is NO AID TO GAZA until Israel is rebuilt, No power, no fuel, no supplies. GIve Isrel a few trillion and let Israel distribute aid. A single rocket, a single attack, and they are gone.

Land for peace? Years ago, I said the pardigm should be no peace, no land. Every act of terrorism means some "Palestinian" land is PERMANENTLY transferred to Israel. Not open for land trades.

The PA has claimed that Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem were Palestinian betweeh 1848-1967, when the areas were illegally occupied by Jordan.

Thus, they consider Jordan a Palestinian state. They have their two state solution. Oh, they want two Arab/Muslim states.
