And this reminds me; is anyone here in touch with Laura Rosen Cohen ("Writermom")? I e-mailed her over the weekend to ask if her loved ones in Israel were okay; I have not yet heard back.

Since both Saturday and Sunday were the last two days of the holiday cycle, during which observant Jews do not switch electronic appliances on or off, she's probably catching up with the events of the weekend and accumulated messages.

If, say, Mark Steyn had written a novel a decade or so ago, in which Pali terrorists in paragliders attacked an Israeli "peace rave" near the Gaza border wall; with the Canadian public service employees union promptly tweeting their support for the attack; Steyn's editor likely would have said, "knock if off, Mark, let's keep this thing a little more grounded in reality".
And yet, here we are.

Apparently the amount of insanity in existence today continues to outpace our imaginations.
Morning, campers. Prayers continue for Israel, although now I'm starting to see stories (on substack) saying of course Israel knew beforehand that Hamas was about to pull off these attacks. The argument hinges on how much our intelligence offices hate the US and are actively trying to tear down the presumptive Republican nominee to present the idea that it intelligence organization in Israel could hate Israel just as much. Let's just say one article isn't going to change my mind that easily.

Gaza has magnificent beaches and lovely weather; were Hamas at all interested in doing so, it could make Gaza the Monte Carlo of the Eastern Mediterranean. But they'd rather go on rampages.

I agree. Of course, I would say the same thing about our intelligence services, had they not already demonstrated a clear hatred of people who love the US. But that is no excuse to blame Israel or assume the same is true for her.

This weekend, Palestinian social justice activists carried out mostly peaceful protests in several locations in Israel. In response, the Zionist Entity has launched a campaign of genocidal terror against women, children, kittens, and puppies.

There's a pro-Israel rally tomorrow night in my town, which has a sizeable Jewish community. I would like to go, but I think I'd feel weird being there by myself.
“ Whether they [self-declared “anti-Zionists”] are motivated by Islamism, leftist bs "anticolonialism," hostility to the West with Israel as their first target, or pure hatred of Jews is immaterial, it's much worse than mere antisemitism. Most antisemites aren't full-on Nazis, and as much as they dislike Jews would object to mass murder (just like most people who have racist opinions of black people would object to mass murder). The so-called antizionists do not, and therefore are much worse.”
Has James Taylor been dispatched by the State Dept. to Israel yet?

One of my favorites, no doubt. The question that Col. Brighton asks after mockingly clapping - "who are you?" - in some ways is the point of the whole film.
