I hear an interview on BBC World this morning with a guy who's a former IDF soldier, in charge of security for a kibbutz. He said, "I got my pistol; as the terrorists were trying to force their way through the fence around our kibbutz, I shot them in the head, one by one."
That's how you do it.

That's how you do it. It's certainly effective. Hey, if the terrorists want to be martyrs, I'm not going to stop them.

Reply to vxbush in 4: The same guy then said (quoting from memory): "I don't want IDF soldiers to go into Gaza, it will be full of traps. Instead I want Gaza flattened." Jib/cut/newsletter, and all that.

That may not be pretty, but it's sound. I mean, the whole goal of our Navy is to flatten things from afar for exactly the same reason.

In a sense, I don't care. Whether Hamas is allied with ISIS, or is their own, entirely self-contained brand of vicious evil... not relevant, morally (though perhaps, tactically). Eliminate them both (among others).

Reply to vxbush in 22: Not once does he mention training. How much does a person train? Cops in reality are not required to do much, an exceptional agency requires 100 round certification quarterly. I researched NYC and they require 50 round qual twice a year. Many gun owners shoot much more. Then is the type of training. Sitting on a range and target shooting is far different from tactical training. For most situations I'd say he's accurate in his assessment, but there are variables.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 25: Seattle is the same 50 rounds twice a year. Most of the cops I know practice a lot more, than that. What kills me is that good shooting, judgement and accuracy takes practice, that is time, the facilities, equipment and supplies. But when a shooting occurs because of the lack of those things, the cry is defund the police.
You want better policing? Then pony up for the training, the extra officers to maintain staffing while others train etc.

I am so fucking tired of "innocent people on both sides" bullshit. Does this mean we shouldn't have bombed the shit out of Germany and Japan because there were people who were at least going along with their lives? No, you have to beat the shit out of places like that so they don't do it again. As for those gloating that Netanyahu might be gone - consider, if Meyer Kahane, who wanted to expel all the Arabs, came back to life, he could quite possibly win after the Gazans show what monsters they are.
