I will be scarce this week. My entire team at work is remote, next week is a semi-annual event, if you will, where everyone comes into town. To meet face to face, attend and all hands meeting. Included are a few after hours events.

All the voices chorusing for Israel to negotiate with Hamas are actually suggesting that Israel submit to binding arbitration blinding Arab attrition.

Yeah, there is a definite pattern demonstrated yet again of wearing Israel down from its righteous anger to make them appease Hamas yet again. I'm sick of it.

We have reached the point where pretty much all government employees and government-adjacent employees have defined any religion but cultural marxism to be unacceptable. Today's data point supporting this thesis: Maya Kowalski Trial: DCF and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Did Not Let Maya Follow Her Catholic Practices

(I've changed the title of the link because I don't like the headline as it was written. It's accurate but not well understood by many people.)

It appears that Starbuck's is suing its employees' union because it used Starbuck's trademarks when posting a (subsequently-deleted) message in support of Hamas.

Apparently there had been rumors floating around the interwebz yesterday that this was going to be a 'black Monday" on the markets; but so far, so good.

In the world's apparent zeal to do a replay of World War II (of some sort), I at least hope there's not a second Battle of Hürtgen Forest.    Given the doubtless vast environmental damage done by bombs and shelling during the original such battle (Sept. - Dec. 1944), another round of such madness would cause environmentalists to gravely observe, "they've had some bad times, lived through some sad times; but this time, the Hürtgen won't heal."

Thank you!  I'm here all week!  Try your waitress!  And don't forget to tip your veal.

An interesting account of the Huertgen Forest campaign can be found in the book "Studio: Europe" by John Groth, a WWII-era illustrator for Esquire who was overseas then as a war correspondent.  The text contains sketches Groth made during the trip, and includes an encounter with Hemingway (also, then, a war correspondent) in Huertgen.

Groth's account of how he gets a studio in Paris in the wake of the city's liberation is also worth reading.

Oh, I liked your veal/waitress swap; it reminded me of when I compared "tipping your waitress" to calling her a cow.

Well, that, but more about the referenced country/western song lyrics.

IIRC, the metaphor is to an eponymous prickly desert cactus of some sort - prickly on the outside, sweet on the inside?  Am I right, or badly misremembering?

More or less; the "sabra" refers to the cacti in the Negev (southern-Israel desert), which allegedly has fruit which is outwardly prickly, but sweet if you can get through that.  It's a term applied to native-born, as opposed to immigrant/naturalized, Israelis---which, apparently, Biden is now claiming to be one of (who knew that Corn Pop was actually going to an Israeli municipal swimming pool?}.
