In another country, the non progressive is probably going to win (or perhaps already has won by this morning) the presidency of El Salvador. The non progressives are winning the leadership in more and more countries. Stephen Kruiser notes one of hte things that has lead to his popularity (not sure what article he is quoting, alas): In 2022, Bukele performed a near-miraculous operation, wiping out three of El Salvador’s largest gangs in three days without tipping them off, resulting in zero retaliation. His government built a giant prison to house the gang members, with 76,000 people arrested in total to clean up the country. Leftists in America cried about human rights and dictatorial powers as El Salvadorans could walk the streets of their country safely for the first time. In 2023, the homicide rate dropped to 2.4 per thousand, the lowest rate in the Americas. Now, many U.S. cities face levels similar to what El Salvador had during the worst of its gang problems.
I can see a lot of Americans who would love to be able to walk the streets safely. Kruiser gives a short list of populists recently elected: Giorgia Meloni, Italy Nayib Bukele, El Salvador (second term) Javier Milei, Argentina This seems like a good start. Macron has to give in to the farmers protesting in France; German and Belgian farmers are resisting. Lots of interesting things going on.

Just to raise awareness--Victoria Taft writes about Satan clubs going on and how while they claim to support science, free inquiry, and rationalism, the actions taken by the clubs are anything but that. They are actually worshiping Satan in these clubs. Be aware, those of you with kids and grandkids in these schools. How is this not a religion and thus eligible to receive the level of mistreatment the Christian clubs get is, frankly, no surprise.

Bukele has indeed overseen a miracle in El Salvador in just a few years, turning it from Latin America's most violent country to one of the safest. Yes, he has used heavy-handed methods to get there. The lesson? Don't let things get so awful in the first place that these sorts of measures are needed. Are you listening, Alvin Bragg/Gavin Newcomb/Muriel Bowser/Joe Biden/etc. etc. etc.?

No kidding. Interestingly, I'm also pretty reliably informed that President Noboa of Ecuador has sent people to consult with Bukele, about their, ah, similar problem in that country.

Way back to Rabbit Bait who preferred communist oppression over right wing oppression. They get their panties in a twist over any right wing anything. It's annoying.

Reply to vxbush in 12: In many respects I blame Rabbit Bait for the current situation in Central America. He actively supported communist insurrection against "right wing" strong men. Leading to civil wars, and failed states to this day. He wasn't the only cause, but a significant contributor. He also destabilize Afghanistan, Iran and Rhodesia with his policies. He said, "I prefer working with dictators because they speak for all the people". Yet he's Saint Jimmy... .*SPIT*
