So how much power does the Biden Administration think it has in matters related to states' rights? Enough to say they can overturn the states' decisions on abortion and override it using a previous statute:

Backed by 22 conservative states and sued by the feds, Idaho challenged the Biden administration's use of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act as a "super-statute" that overrides [the state's] Defense of Life Act, which includes criminal penalties and loss of license, and "turns emergency rooms into a federal enclave where state standards of care do not apply."

While Prelogar faced skepticism from GOP-appointed justices about the massive expansion of federal power her argument implied, a recurring point of confusion for the whole bench was how much "daylight" stood between EMTALA, designed to stop "patient-dumping," and Idaho's law.

The former requires "immediate medical attention" when the health of the individual or "unborn child" would otherwise face "serious jeopardy, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of bodily organs." The latter has one health-related abortion exception: "necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman."

Idaho Chief of Constitutional Litigation Joshua Turner struggled to convince both parties' appointees at oral argument Wednesday that Idaho doctors need not fear prosecution for performing abortions that would save a woman's life in their "good-faith medical judgment."

Gem State hospitals aren't taking any chances, Prelogar told the court, citing one system that says it has transferred a pregnant woman who needs an emergency abortion out of state every other week. Justice Elena Kagan said Idaho's busiest emergency department airlifted six women to less draconian pro-life states in "the few months" before the law was blocked.

This case is limited to "grave medical emergencies" that EMTALA requires hospitals to treat to "stabilize" women who, "within reasonable medical probability," would suffer "material deterioration" of their emergency conditions if transferred, Prelogar said.

That may require performing abortions, and it's how the law has been "understood and applied for decades," even by pro-life states that further restricted abortion following the high court's 2022 Dobbs ruling, she said.

"This is not a post-Dobbs unprecedented position by the government," Justice Sonia Sotomayor told Idaho's Turner, who insisted it was in both his main argument and rebuttal.

Turner emphasized that the government's spreadsheet of "115,000 enforcement instances" did not show "a single example where state law was overridden by EMTALA."

The administration's reading would mean each state's standard of care on opioids, which varies from a five-day supply to "no limit," could be "wiped out" by the feds, he said.

[editing mine for clarity.]

The power-hungry Feds want all the power and want to leave nothing to the states except things that aren't a big deal politically.

One more tidbit from that article that demonstrates the power the Feds want:

The solicitor general amazed Justice Neil Gorsuch by arguing Congress "very likely" had the authority to preempt all state medical licensing laws through a medical ethics rule.

Remember Eric Ciaramella, who heard second-hand what Trump said to Zelenskyy and that became a grounds for impeachment? How it wasn't right for Trump to have Biden investigated before the 2020 election? (You're just supposed to ignore what multiple Dems have been doing now.)

Well, we have more of the story

However, newly uncovered emails show that Ciaramella had significant connections to the Biden family's involvement in Ukraine that Trump wanted to investigate.

"The ‘whistleblower’ who sparked Donald Trump’s first impeachment was deeply involved in the political maneuverings behind Biden-family business schemes in Ukraine that Trump wanted probed, newly obtained emails from former Vice President Joe Biden’s office reveal,” reports Paul Sperry of RealClearInvestigations.

Four years before Ciaramella made his allegations against Trump, he served as a national security analyst linked to then-Vice President Biden's office. During this time, he was a close advisor to Biden when Biden issued his infamous threat to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine unless the country’s prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who was investigating Burisma Holdings where Biden’s son had a lucrative board position, was fired.

...

“It now seems there was material evidence that would have been used at the impeachment trial [to exonerate Trump],” explains Jonathan Turley, law professor at George Washington University. “Trump was alleging there was a conflict of interest with the Bidens, and the evidence could have challenged Biden’s account and established his son’s interest in the Shokin firing.”

Ciaramella’s role – including high-level discussions with top Biden aides and Ukrainian prosecutors – is only now coming to light thanks to the recent release of White House emails and photos from the National Archives.

The emails show Ciaramella expressed shock – “Yikes” is what he wrote – at Biden’s move to withhold the $1 billion in aid from Kyiv, which represented a sudden shift in U.S. policy. They also show he was drawn into White House communications over how to control adverse publicity from Hunter taking a lucrative seat on Burisma’s board.

Yet there is no evidence Ciaramella raised alarms about the questionable Biden business activities he witnessed firsthand, which is in sharp contrast to 2019. In that instance, he was galvanized into action after being told by White House colleague Alexander Vindman of an “improper” phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the call, Trump solicited Zelensky’s help in investigating Burisma and Hunter Biden’s role in the company.

Some former congressional investigators say Ciaramella effectively helped cover up a scandal far worse than what Trump was impeached over. What’s more, he failed to disclose that he had a potential conflict of interest stemming from his connection to the matter Trump asked Zelensky to probe when he lodged his complaint against Trump. RealClearInvestigations was the first to identify the then-33-year-old Ciaramella as the anonymous impeachment “whistleblower,” something major media continue to keep under tight wraps.

Power hungry much?

"The White House is now considering declaring a national climate emergency." "If Joe Biden declares a national climate emergency, he would have COVID-like powers. He would impose the Green New Deal on America without a vote in Congress"The AP is urging other news outlets to use the term "Climate Crisis"

To which another X'er wrote:

"If the government can suspend your rights anytime it deems something is a crisis, you don't have rights. You have permissions."

Apparently we don't have enough people crossing our borders. Now the US government is setting up refugee processing centers in Doha, Qatar, and Ankara, Turkey, to help bring more refugees here.

Theoretically, it's only to process a certain type of refugee:

USCIS staff will assume responsibility for processing Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition, from State Department consular staff, assist with certain fraud detection-related activities, and provide other limited services. Services at both locations will be available only by appointment. USCIS will update the International Immigration Offices webpage to include information about the field offices, services and appointments.

With the opening of the Doha Field Office on May 7, 2024, and the Ankara Field Office on May 9, 2024, USCIS will have 11 international field offices. Other international field offices include Beijing; Guangzhou, China; Guatemala City; Havana; Mexico City; Nairobi, Kenya; New Delhi; San Salvador, El Salvador; and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

So if one member of the family sneaks into the country and Border Patrol releases that person on their own recognizance, can they then ask for the rest of their family to show up at one of these centers and get the rest of the family here? Apparently, yes. That seems to be the goal--get more Middle Eastern refugees.

And in news involving China:

Pentagon Watchdog Opens Probe of DOD Funds to China for Pathogen Research

[A] recent analysis by auditors at Open The Books ... found the DOD provided nearly $52 million to Chinese firms, including a $6 million contract for development services on the U.S. military’s command software program.

That last item is beyond stupid and into criminal.

There have been calls for a convention of the states for years now, and that has generated a lot of heat but little light. Some people say we shouldn't even consider this because the liberals would use it to take away even more power from the states.

The issue seems to be, in short, that liberals are willing to spend every molecule of their beings pushing for more of their agenda, and conservatives want to be left alone. We don't have an equal response as a result. I would love to hear some clear, cogent solutions.
