There's nothing in the news that is grabbing my attention today except perhaps the tentative agreement on the longshoremen's contract for the east coast. I would love to hear more about what happened behind closed doors.

Feds say there’s no money left to respond to hurricanes — after FEMA spent $1.4B on migrants WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas set off outrage Wednesday when he told reporters that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “does not have the funds” to see Americans through the rest of this Atlantic hurricane season — after the agency spent more than $1.4 billion since the fall of 2022 to address the migrant crisis.

Given how continuing resolution funding is de rigeur these days, the House could absolutely have created a separate resolution to fund emergency money for FEMA. However, that would be rewarding FEMA for their outrageous behavior supporting illegal aliens. I don't like doing that, but I absolutely hate watching all these people suffer and die because of federal government is abdicating its role in another area.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 12: Heh. Of course, you could say the same thing about a lot of politicians these days. They aren't so great with the truth. Speaking of "truth": what's the truth here?
A bombshell report from a whistleblower has set off alarms among Arizona’s voters and political leaders, as new revelations have surfaced about an alleged plan by the FBI to deploy plainclothes agents to polling stations in Maricopa County. According to a whistleblower who attended a recent security briefing, the FBI’s primary objective with this operation is to monitor Trump voters during the upcoming election—a disturbing indication of federal interference aimed at intimidating those who dare to support the 45th president. Representative Alexander Kolodin (R-AZ) was quick to act, sending a forceful letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, warning that such actions would not be tolerated. In the letter, Kolodin made it clear that the House is prepared to take immediate action against any attempts by federal agents to intimidate or censor voters in Arizona. The FBI denies this, of course.

Reply to vxbush in 13: The FBI hasn't been trustworthy for quite awhile. So.... who should I believe? A whistleblower who's report is in line with recent FBI behavior. or The FBI that has been less than believable for a decade.

or
The FBI that has been less than believable for a decade. Bayesian statistics support this analysis. If the FBI has been lying for a while and someone comes forward with information, chances are very good they will lie again.
