Sorry--the morning insanity got away from me completely. I'm only now coming up for air. Reply to JCM in 1: Did these folks ever do this during the Biden Administration? Oh, wait, don't tell me....I think I know. /

OR, I saw your post at the end of the day yesterday about how Wall Street was managing the DeepSeek news. Turns out Wall Street lost a trillion dollars yesterday (I'm guessing all paper money). NVIDIA lost $600 billion. Richard Fernandez reviews the lay of the land and pulls together what China did without NVIDIA chips but also points out the US telecom cyberattack called Operation Salt Typhoon that China also performed. So if you connect someone's cell phone calls and location data with their AI queries, how much information could you glean from this and take advantage of? I'm guessing a lot. And if you convinced a lot of people in government to use this tool, it could get very ugly. But can it really perform? Well, the tool is open source, so in theory someone else can take that code and run it and see if it acts the same way as the DeepSeek app itself. I'm hoping to find that someone has done this and has discovered....gaps.... yes, let's call them gaps in the knowledge. I would be very hard pressed to believe China would willingly give up a competitive advantage if it actually exists.

Reply to vxbush in 3: Going to the GitHub repository, there are over 4000 forks of the source code for DeepSeek. That means many people have copied the source to a new repository and they are planning on using this as a starting point to create their own AI. Hopefully some of these folks are researchers who will verify whether DeepSeek is good or, instead, just how evil it is.
