Rebuilding the Palisades "in a more equitable and environmentally sustainable way" is probably not going to work out, methinks. I don't think these people even know what "sustainable" means--unless the only thing they are sustaining is the payouts to their friends who will make big donations to the Democrat politicians.

Matt Margolis reminded readers at PJMedia that the FAA under the Biden Administration decided to recruit workers with disabilities, psychiatric issues, and other mental and physical limitations under a DEI-focused hiring spree. Do we know this is what caused the accident Wednesday night? Absolutely note. I saw your video link, JCM, to the accident reviewer, but I haven't had the chance to go see it.

But I bring this issue up because Trump's EO on stopping DEI madness should impact the FAA as well. If anyone needs a job who can do the work, that might be a place to look. And given the decision that all government employees must work in the office in person, anyone at the FAA who has been working remotely might decide to take the 8-month several pay and leave. More openings are possible there, too.

More about Wednesday's crash

A preliminary FAA report indicated that staffing at the DCA Air Traffic Control tower was “not normal” at the time of the helicopter-plane collision.

According to NBC News, at the time of the collision, one controller was overseeing both helicopter and airplane traffic.

Typically, one controller focuses on helicopter activity.

Gosh, Chris, who let that happen?

I saw that via Insty.  That story is so bizarre that I think it would be rejected if proposed as a movie plot, for being too farfetched.

Also: A small note in the Frontier... today is a red-letter day...

Yes, this whole passive-aggressive "Gosh, terrible things happened....while I was in office.....but I clearly couldn't do anything about it" is just ridiculous.

And yes, I know the news, and it is excellent and momentous.

Seeing as how you've got a young son, and your period of employment is terminating, it would be appropriate for you to acquire a vintage poster for Fisk tires; their early-20th-century advertisements showed a young man in nightgown and nightcap, holding a candleholder with a lit candle in one hand, and an auto tire slung over his other shoulder, beneath which was the slogan, "Time to Re-Tire."

Were I of conspiracy-theory mind, I would posit---especially given the near-miss airplane helicopter/airliner collision on the previous day---that the aircraft collision in Washington was staged as a distraction to ensure that the mainstream news outlets would be endlessly babbling their lack of information as a way of distracting from having to cover the confirmation hearings for Trump's many department nominees (and the circus aspects of those hearings).

Of course, that is merely the product of a fevered imagination.

I remember the hearings for Biden's FAA Administrator. Guy did not have an aviation background and didn't know many basic aviation terms.

Should it not be posted far and wide that his "accusation/announcement" is actually his confession to incompetence and malfeasance?

Lots of people want to believe lots of things about this tragedy.  But really... I think it was just what it looks like; an accident.  Yes, someone almost certainly screwed up, either in ATC or on the helo crew or both; but it's just an accident.

The holes in the swiss cheese lined up. That how stuff like this happens.

Congested airspace, low altitudes when aircraft lights blend into city lights, the last minute change in runway, helo drifting out of altitude, traffic control apparently understaffed.

Take any of those factors out, it doesn't happen.

I like this phrase. It succinctly explains the alignment of failures that all have to happen in order for something bad like this to occur.
