No links but until 1973 it was Congressionally Controlled, Article I Sec. 8. 1973 the Home Rule Act gave most of the powers to a local government.

[Kyra Phillips] then revealed her own harrowing encounter with crime in the nation’s capital. 

“It was within the last two months that I actually was jumped while walking just two blocks down from here,” Phillips explained.

She further blew up the narrative closed by revealing one of her co-workers was a victim THIS MORNING. Think Trump’s announcement was timely?

“This morning, one of my co-workers said her car was stolen just a block away from the bureau,” Phillips said. “So, we can talk about the numbers going down, but crime is happening every single day because we’re all experiencing it firsthand while working and living here.

I'm just wondering if Martha's Vineyard is so blasé about crime.

Well, it is much harder to get stolen cars off the island. Easy to check when loading the ferries.

And easier to catch criminals, too, as they have to go by ferry or plane. OK, maybe they can take a small boat, but still, there are few ways to get off The Vinyahd.

Apparently there is a clause (740) in the Home Rule Act that allows The President to Federalize the D.C. Police for 30 days.
