For the last week, the AI portion of the computer industry has gone gaga over an open source product called Moltbot. It had been called Clawdbot, but Anthropic got upset at the rhyming scheme with their Claude AI and the lawyers sent a very stern letter. This article shows you just the tip of what it can do, and to me it's nothing short of terrifying, if only because if you don't have this securely protected fifteen ways from Sunday, something bad WILL happen. It's incredibly powerful, and Spiderman wasn't the only one who needed to worry about great power and great responsibility. It's not specific to Macs; it runs on all the OS flavors. It programs itself. It downloads what it needs from the Internet and installs it automatically. And it has already bought a car for someone by emailing car dealers for the user and negotiating a deal. Once the price was confirmed, the human took over.

Reply to vxbush in 5: Given virtually every racist attack in the last decade has been a hoas. I'd give it a high degree of probability.

Reply to vxbush in 4: What many people miss is there is nothing outside the ChiCom Party and their goal of become the dominate global power. Immigrants, business, property, products, software... all of it is intertwined with the goals of China.

Reply to vxbush in 6: The latest fraud in WA is with Parks funding. Running into the millions. Again it involves grants to NGOs for service regarding to Parks, maintenance or programs. Again, no oversight. Hand out the money. No record of the services provided.

Reply to JCM in 2: I was in college when this happened, and we missed the moment of the explosion but were glued to the TV soon after. It was horrible to watch.

“ It was up armored.”
One assumes, yes. Still, being able to just drive away after taking a close-ish-range RPG hit…dayum.

I was doing my junior year abroad in the UK. The reaction by many of the British students to this was disgusting.

We were wasting money? These people were better off dead? I can imagine a lot, but I'm not sure how a death in a US space program would be a reason for UK students to spit vitriol.

Rumor has it that to avoid any possible accusations of fraud over her non-existent winery, Ihlan Omar is announcing that she now identifies as "non-winery."

Reply to Occasional Reader in 24: I was working at DEC, (PKO3 building) and they pulled out a TV on a rack and we watched it, all quite disturbed. APparently perfidious Brits were going downhill back then.
BTW, watched the first Starship launch (where the staged didn't separate) in a room with some small artifacts that had been in space, as equipment in the building had been used in the 1960s for re-entry physics experiments.
