Well, it almost did, so it wouldn't be much of a fib. Although I will say this--the rain there is usually gentle, unlike the gangbanger of a storm we had last night that had winds so strong the trees were almost pulled to horizontal.

So: do we have a deal with Iran or not? I don't trust Iran to any degree, so I don't believe such a deal exists--yet.

Washington Post facing class action lawsuit for using reader data to set subscription prices

"The readers argue that New York law requires companies that engage in the practice to disclose it. The law took effect in late 2025, but the Post didn't disclose to its readers that it was using their activities to set prices until March 2026.

"The lawsuit was filed in D.C. Superior Court on Thursday."

I can't say I'm too surprised by this. But I'd like to learn more about the case, because part of me thinks that if I just want to play the crossword puzzle, I just want to pay for that and nothing else.

Can't figure out if there is a deal or not. Trump says leaked details are incorrect and they are not negotiating in good faith - so I say, go back to fighting them

I don't believe a thing the media says about any Iran deal... some of the sources they uses don't any credibility left, busted for just making shit up.

Iran you have factions, Trump may be talking to the "government", i.e. the current top mad mullah. but there is also the military, the IRGC and others who may or may not go along with a deal the mullahs make. On top of that there are individual commanders who may do things like shoot off drones and missiles because he didn't get a sugar cube with his morning tea.

Trump is likely the most accurate, but he's also playing his game. Says one thing as a bargaining position, then the actual talks he'll be more "reasonable". I do believe removal of the enriched uranium is the one absolute requirement.

Sounds extremely plausible. I'd rather hope Trump would just stop playing games and do what needs to be done, but I'm not sure he'll be allowed to. She may be right that someone will always stop him and assume the Iranians will be rational creatures (when they clearly aren't).

It's never that "he'll be allowed to" or that "someone will stop him".  He pretty much does whatever he wants.  It's rooted deep in his content of character (going back to his father, who liked the way young Donald acted, and from the Seventies used Donald's behavior as a "new brand" for the Trump Organization.)

(To really set you off...)  The Iranians are, in fact, rational.  They merely start from an entirely different cultural-religious foundation.  Go to what Phillips says about "Twelvers".  It's rooted in the very-earliest history of Islam, when what had started as a spiritual faith was being re-engineered by some, into an ideology for motivating an empire-building army.  It's where the Sunni/Shi'a split came from, and it quickly went off into two ultra-authoritarian ideologies.  When Phillips refers to the returning of the Mahdi, she's referring to the ultra-radical Hojjatieh Sect, who are at the core of those who want Iran to have nuclear weapons.

Right; they are the ones intentionally trying to bring the Mahdi here, so they are intentionally doing these to destroy the world to make hime come sooner.

Exactly.

And the IRGC doesn't need a missile.  They could put crude bomb onto a tramp steamer and sail it into Haifa harbor.  The massive Israeli nuclear response is what they're after.  It's all they're after.  The couldn't care less about cutting a deal with Donald Trump ... except that maybe somehow he'll agree to letting them keep their nuclear program alive ... in some form or fashion ... like Obama and Valerie Jarrett did.

(Jarrett had been born in Iran.)

"Iran’s Special Clerical Court has sentenced dissident cleric Abdolrahim Soleimani Ardestani to six years in prison, a fine and removal from the clergy, months after his public challenge to state-backed Shiite narratives drew threats and political pressure."

(For anyone who wants to dig further into that which is behind the IRGC, which was behind Ruhollah Khomeini and his idea of "rule by clergy".  The article is from the Iran International website, which is tied to the Pahlavi side of Iranian politics.  It mentions "the late dissident cleric Hossein Ali Montazeri", who it's crucial to research and understand the historical significance.  The June 2009 Green Movement was well-covered on the old Correspondence Committee, as was the origins of their nuclear program -- "Fordow" and so forth.)
