Reply to lucius septimius in 1: Rainy and 62 degrees here. Doing laundry and trying to make some headway on two final projects before the invasion. I finally figured out what I want to do for the research proposal that was giving me so much trouble - it was literally staring me in the face from my bookshelf.

So today has been busy as well. Old van died yesterday, sort of. Today I went and signed the paperwork for purchasing the new van. Will be picking it up on Tuesday afternoon. Got approved on the financing all on my own. Big change from being on welfare two years ago.

Reply to PaladinPhil in 5: Reply to Alice in Dairyland in 7: Thanks all. 2019 was a rough year, Munchette's surgery, totalled truck, getting laid off, Munchette's mental crisis, the new job not working out. Amazon should be a bright spot. The salary will be enough so Mrs. JCM can cut back to part time. It's closer and the hours will be more flexible.

So much fun trying to cook on a stove that has no effective temp control. It's either blazing hot or nothing.

To reduce CO2 emissions, Brookline, MA votes to increase them Brookline is the first Massachusetts community to outlaw natural gas
and heating oil pipes in new buildings after residents voted
overwhelmingly for the bylaw Wednesday, a ban — slammed by the fossil
fuel industry — that could end up in court. Town Meeting members voted 211-3 to pass the bylaw “Prohibition on New Fossil Fuel Infrastructure in Major Construction.”
The ban, for both new construction and major rehab projects, will
help curb climate change and is a model for area cities and towns, said
supporters who rallied around a “Gas is the Past” sign. No, producing electricity from fossil fuels is at best 45% efficient, and gas furnaces are 89-98% efficient. Roughly twice the amount of gas will have to be burned for heat. Massachusetts electricity comes from at least 70% fossil fuels, so that will increase emissions by about 50% in a quick back of the envelope approximation.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 17: Brookline would have to get over 99% of its electricity from non fossil fuel sources. Time for them to go nuclear.
