Great clip.  The notes say it's from 1938, but I'd have guessed at least 4 years earlier from the style of the music.  It's reminiscent of some of the numbers in "Murder at the Vanities," one of the last of the films made before the Code crackdown in 1934, and of the number "Turn on the Heat" (I forget which film that's from).

There are some hot numbers with white girls from the early days, too, such as the phone-operator number from "Hollywood Party" and a song called "Clean as a Whistle, Fresh as a Daisy," in which the girls are all naked in a communal shower.

If I can find them---I have a few of them bookmarked from a while back, but who knows if they're still up---I'll try to post them later.

It is a clear violation of the condiments clause.

Live and Love Tonight

I'm not a big fan of Carl Brisson, and this isn't the best song in the film, but the chorus girls making ocean waves with ostrich-feather fans is something else.

Apparently my work schedule over the holidays is going to suck big time. How much is it going to suck? Well apparently my manager is giving us a cooler (unknown size at the moment) of moose meat from this year's hunt. Will probably be getting more details this week.

Gee, but I'd give the world to see

That old gang of mine

I can't forget the old quartet

That sang, "Sweet Adeline"...

Lest anyone think that last night's black dancers doing "break dancing" was anything exceptional, watch the white boys in this old two-strip Technicolor clip do much the same thing:  Gold Diggers of Broadway.
