My dad made me a version out of a refrigerator box. It had a conning tower and a periscope. Dad made a tube with angle mirrors in each end. it had two parts which slide so I could raise the periscope. It had two holes in the bow for ping pong ball pop guns to destroy any enemy shipping which crossed my bow.

Reply to lucius septimius in 5:   Wow!  My mother lived to 90 and my mother-in-law lived to 100.  I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but I'm just not seeing it yet.  We joke about them plenty enough though.  My mom was the worst cook in the world and she taught me everything she knew.  My MIL could save the world from destruction, although she probably instigated the disaster herself.  Like I've said before, it helps that I have a good sense of humor.

I'm sure my dad could have made a really great one (he had the skills), but that's just not the sort of thing that he would have done.  I had planned out one I wanted to make in the basement but I never could get enough suitable cardboard.
