Morning, campers. I am having a new tube put in my eardrum today around noon. It should be completely straightforward and uncomplicated, but those of a praying sort can still pray that it stays that way. in other news—real life has prevented me from being on,one much, it I spent some t8me this morning. A thing upon news and I hear that Dems in the Senate are upset with Pelosi not sending over the articles of impeachment. I think this is noteworthy and demonstrates that the fracturing of the party is taking its toll. Now, a switch to tech news—CES seems to have a sizable contingent of companies pushing virtual people. Avatars, companions, whatever you want to call it. It seems our society is growing more interested in virtual people than real ones. This demonstrates to me that we want to avoid things we don’t like (duh) and we are extending this to people as well. It isn’t that far along yet, but the virtual friends in Japan are being readied for Western audiences. It's coming.

In #6 Syrah said: i am probably a minority in this but I think these virtual people (with animated movement) avatars are a little creepy. I have some concerns about bad actors taking over some of these things and people just accepting it. I fear people using these to fake friends and become more isolated. There are serious issues.

Reply to vxbush in 7: i agree. I have seen identity fakes with Facebook messenger. That was just word based and very well done. I can imagine that with something like these avatars being used, the fake would be even more convincing. The fake friends thing is a problem. The internet feeds that problem already. Lonely people are susceptible to this kind of error.
