Howdy. Just had a long catching-up call with a liberal friend, who mentioned in passing how we are living in “the collapse of American democracy.” It’s always the same: “We lost that election, therefore DEMOCRACY IS BROKEN.”

I would have said "opponents," or "adversaries," but the kind of behavior they're engaging in does indeed create "enemies" where mere opponents or adversaries existed before.

Reply to lucius septimius in 3:
When they say “democracy is broken, we have to FIX it”, they mean “fix” in the marked-card sense.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 5: I think the better analogy is using the veterinarian term of Fix. As in render impotent.

Senator proposes bill to breach locks, remove Seattle City Light dams The proposal recommends undoing all the water way controls in and around Seattle. All the drinking water reservoir dams and power generation dams. Seattle libs want to remove the dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers which would impact 3 States or more. So this would do the same to Seattle.

Is the sculpture "antisemitic?" Of course. Should it be removed? Of course not; it should be left there as a marker of past history. Of course it should be left in place, preferably with a description explaining how medieval Christianity viewed Jews, and how that set the foundation for the Shoah. In Boston, it turns out Faneuil, who paid for the historic building Faneuil Hall, was involved in the slave trade. There was a discussion about renaming the building. I liked the idea of a (black) artist, to put up a sculpture of a slave auction with an explanation. Something that would help people learn history. He dropped the idea when various organizations pushed back against the idea. Not white supremacist or Confederate organizations, but the NAACP.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 7: Just like the Confederate statues. Put up a plaque putting history in context and/or add another statue honoring a black hero. Don't try to erase history.
