Buenos días.  Are we ready to enjoy the Dems’ wailing and gnashing of teeth?

I've been thinking how easy it would be to make a powerful political ad using Nadler's "irrelevant" list, juxtaposing media talking heads and NYT/Post headlines with him saying "irrelevant."

Speaking of Nadler, I thought he couldn't be there because he wife was at death's door or something.  I guess she got better.

So I just had a conversation with a colleague who lives in Bethesda (near-suburbs) with wife and two kids, and is now in full panic-prepper mode over Wuhan Coronavirus.  He went over the whole list of things he has so that he and his family could stay sheltered in the house for one full month.  I pointed out that he has no guns; so if in, say, Week Three of Zombie Apocalypse he sees my car pull up in front of his house, he should just bring out his emergency stockpile and leave it outside the front door, so I don't have to come in and get it.

Me, I figure with what I have on hand, I could hunker down with Little OR for about two weeks.  (Variables there, of course, does the power stay on, does either of us get sick, etc.)  Tomorrow I think I'll supplement the usual grocery run with a bunch of extra canned food, to push that estimate out another week or so.

Clearly, you've been paying closer attention to this whole circus than I have, despite my Inside-The-Beltway physical presence.

Impeachment meter.

In the days that this thing has been in the Senate, I have not heard one person in the non-online world say the word “impeachment”.

i live in a blue town, in a blue state.

if this thing had legs, I wouldn’t be able to get away from people talking about it.

Will Adam Schiff “fail upward” and be rewarded for his impeachment gambit?

Indeed.  In the runup to the Mueller Report release, I couldn't get a cup of coffee here in DC without hearing excited Lefties at the next table yammering away about how THIS IS THE END OF TRUMP.    In contrast, I hear practically nothing about impeachment. Even the Kool-Aid Drinkers know this is going nowhere for them.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 1:  Overheard at the gym this morning, two guys were talking about what an outrage is is that Trump is going to get off, no punishment for his crimes, and now he will be free to do anything, even kill somebody. Another man asks,

"Well, what was the specific crime he was charged with?"

"What? Are you fucking nuts? He's an asshole a dictator, he thinks he's above the law!"

"Ok, so he's an asshole. But what exactly was the crime?"

They couldn't answer that question.

I saw a teenager wearing a full face mask respirator today. He was getting off the subway on his way to school. I suspect it was more of a lark than an actual serious infection fear.

There are a lot of Asian students at the school where I teach, and yesterday a number of them were wearing facemasks.  You'd think that art and fashion students would at least adorn them with amusing faces, or slogans, or accessories, but no.

Undoubtedly. He will be in (minority) leadership in the next Congress, assuming he wins reelection.

Remember the photo from the Democratic National Convention, probably 2004, with all the living Democratic presidential candidates? Only Clinton and Carter had won the presidency,  and Carter lost his reelection bid in a landslide. The failed candidates were treated like conquering heroes. That's the party in a nutshell.

Investigate

Reply to Kenneth in 12:

I had a similar conversation with a co-worker. He was of the opinion there had to be a crime, therefore investigate until it was found.
