That should be 256, not 265. Sheesh. Should I be concerned about our Defense Department software???I'm checking on what y'all have been up to, and I sees this last night...

Brrrr. Morning, campers. I dressed for the 36º high we're supposed to get instead of the 19º current temperatures.

I'm getting the sense that republican commentators don't understand what Bloomberg is for or what he's doing. They're looking at all the bad press coming out for him about things he said and did 9-10 years ago, and they are mystified as to why this guy is running. They think his negatives are so obvious that no one would vote for him. The problem is, these commentators are thinking that Democrat voters are like them and know all this stuff. They might recognize that he is running to be the alternative to Bernie, but these commentators don't seem to realize that Dem voters are pretty frustrated with their choices right now and seeing someone labeled as "former New York City Mayor" might, just might, make them think that he's as capable as Guliani was after 9/11.

Except pretty much all computers coming out now are 64-bit machines.

Bloomberg was a petty tyrant as NYC mayor, and wants to become a petty tyrant on the grand scale.  Nonetheless, I don't see his comments regarding a certain demographic of "of-color" kids, for which he is now being excoriated, as being off the mark---to the contrary, he's being damned because what he said was accurate.  He's being dragged over the coals because he said something that was true, and said it bluntly.

The thing I like to remind people who start vaporing about how Trump, if he wins, will go for an unconstitutional third term is that Bloomberg, while mayor, actually did take an illegal third term by arm-twisting the City Council to abrogate the NYC term-limits law just for him.

Oh, I missed that! And that is an excellent point. But that also goes back to the humor thing that I posted a few days ago--people didn't realize that Trump was joking when he said that, and so they took him far too seriously. I have yet to see or hear Bloomberg crack a joke.

I know- my current one is. However, whut's that gotta do with incorrect computation of powers of 2? (And yeah, I'm sure it was a typo...)

There is particular resonance in Bloomberg's grabbing of an illegal third mayoral term in that Giuliani requested Bloomberg to let him stay on, temporarily, in the wake of 9/11, and Bloomberg, of course, refused.

BTW, just to clarify my #4 above, I trust that all here know me well enough to understand that I'm in no way disparaging blacks or Hispanics per se by saying that Bloomberg was spot on in his unvarnished comments.  Many people, black, white, and in between, have decried the culture that exists in certain communities where striving for academic achievement is disparaged as "acting white," and subject to ungentle discouragement by the aspirant's peers.  Bloomberg merely had the bad taste to allude bluntly to it out loud.

Well, you should instead focus on powers of 64 now. 😜

Oh, I understood the latter, and agree with it. And I am surrounded by accomplished folks of all backgrounds, some of whom would agree with this sentiment.

As for Giuliani staying on--while I appreciate the desire to maintain consistency, I don't think he had a right to stay on beyond the usual date. I would say, however, that if there had been another attack the day of or the day before Bloomberg was supposed to take office, then there could be a good argument to be made that Giuliani should have stayed on as a consultant or coordinator of city services. That I could definitely support.

96-97% of the homicides in NYC IIRC.

There is no such thing as a “racist fact”.

Well, see, that's disproportionate.  The other races have to increase their homicide rates.

Don't they grade on a curve?

Nonsense. According to Law & Order in its various incarnations,  most murders in NYC take place at tony prep schools,  Upper East Side mansions,  and the highly regarded Hudson University.

As I have long said, the *typical* homicide in New York City according to that show is a multimillionaire investment banker murdering his supermodel girlfriend.

Well, isn't it obvious? According to Hollywood, those are the only folks that count!

(I wish I was being sarcastic.)

The show wouldn't be in its 30-something-th season if it was realistic. How many domestic violence murders and drug-related killings can a person watch without being bored to pieces?

Well, by all accounts "The Wire" did well...

Have you seen it? I only got through the first three seasons, but it was exceptionally well done.

Meanwhile, I should have gotten my first paycheck today, but no sign of it. The staffing agency insisted it would be there by close of business, which is nonsense because deposits are credited overnight. If it's not there in the morning, they can explain it to my creditors.

Why would I want to?  I've lived in "mixed neighborhoods" most of my adult life.

I can understand that. What I liked about it was the complexity of the characters and the quality of the performances. It's not just cops vs. criminals. Each season focuses on a different institution in the city of Baltimore - police, city government, the media, the educational system, etc. As you might imagine, each is more corrupt than the last.
