Good morning. I am at the salon for my quarantine haircut. The state-mandated precautions are absurd and probably not protecting anyone. How is a flimsy disposable cape better than a cloth one that's washed in hot water after every use?

Reply to doppelganglander in 1: Hey, at least you are “allowed“ to go get your haircut. Not so here. Which is why I’ll be asking my ex to give me a haircut again tomorrow.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 4: Pelosi's "stimulus" plan was a good sign of what the Dems would bring if they had control of the White House and Congress.

I have been having trouble with my big work truck, a 2003 GMC 6.5l Diesel randomly staling for no apparent reason. I will be driving down the road and all of the sudden, the engine is off and I am coasting on the road with no power. Fun times. i have taken it to the shop, the local big diesel shop, several times, and they can’t figure it out. They are currently guessing it might be an issue with the injector pump, which would run too north of $5,000.00 for a replacement(parts and labor). i May have figured this thing out. if I am right, I can fix this myself, for about $400, 2 hours of my amateur mechanic time and hardly get dirty in the process. I don’t know much about working on cars. It was just never my thing. I hate getting my hands dirty with engine grease and grime and have, until now, been content to throw money at someone else to do that kind of work. i would like some commentary on what I am guessing that the problem is. I think I need to replace the PMD. see: https://www.accuratediesel.com/6-5l-stalling.html https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GLLtpx34lCk

Reply to Occasional Reader in 3: True. It's nice that you have a good enough relationship for her to do that for you. Anyway, I look fabulous, even if I had to blow dry my own hair, and that's what matters, right?

Reply to Syrah in 7: There are some good sites and even newspaper columns that give car and truck repair advice. That does look reasonable, and the kind of thing the columnists say. Also, check with the NHTSA to see if there was a recall. If so, often the dealer has to fix it at company expense. The NHTSA recall search tool (not perfect) Finally, you probably should report it, even if it is already reported to the NHTSA. The more reports, the more likely they will force a recall.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 3: Wife cut my hair last week. I was starting to look like an old hippie, without the tie-dye clothes. My regular barber probably retired. He rented space in a salon, and was down to two days a week.

And so as part of my ongoing plan to hopefully be prepared for the next curve ball the 21st century throws us; today, my geiger counter arrived.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 10: Thanks Kosh I talked to my brother about this and he is hopeful that this is the right fix too. Now I just have to get the truck back from the shop and they are closed up for the weekend. that gives me time to get the parts together for the replacement.
